Sorry, I know this is the bane of every funsters life but its an important one!
I have a thetford 200 in this new to me van, and so far never been lucky enough to get away in nice weather, I’m great at picking the bad weekends☹️
But this weekend we’ve struck gold however the smell of urine from the toilet is something else even though the cassette was fresh before we come away. I’ve ordered a freshen up kit of cassette and seat but in preparation is there anything else I can do? I have green fluid in the tank, used thetford bathroom cleaner on the bowl and even added a splash of bio liquid and it smells terrible. Any tricks before I install the cassette and clean the holding area?

One area to check is where the lid and seat are attached to the bowl, this gets dirty and isn't always easy to see or clean without removing seat and lid to do so.
Never realised you could remove the seat and lid for cleaning and I’m the sole loo technician in our outfit. How do you get them off and on without breaking something? This from a total DIY numpty.

It depends which model, some you open the lid and pull straight up and 2 pegs slide out with the seat. Others you have to pull the lid sideways to unclip. Very easy to do when you know how

We normally use the 40 shot blue toilet chemical but on a recent trip we ran out of it so purchased some Elson Organic green fluid and it's the first time in years that the toilet stank.
Have just ordered some more of the 40 shot from eBay £10.99.
Have you tried the 40 shot green i.e. no biocides chemical? Not the cherry fragrance like the blue one but still pleasant smell.

Yes still doesn't seem as effective as the blue, there is no formaldehyde in the formula of the blue.

Can I suggest you get a spray bottle and fill it with the Pink stuff and use it as a flush after you use the water flush, it stops any smell from the bowl and keeps it cleaner. It’s great at cleaning skid marks 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣
That’s what I do but I use pink method anti bac spray 👍

No chance of a youtube video of changing the seals then ? ;)
Hi, would this help?

The emptying spout also lift out completely by rotting it 180 deg, then lift it. This makes emptying the cassette when giving it a deep clean a lot easier.
Mike.

We've just discovered this stuff too. Absolutely excellent and at Go Outdoors it's very cheap.
Yes it's confusing because in spite of the name It's actually a green fluid!

Fit a SOG unit. Works without chemicals, couldn't stand the smell of the blue stuff, so fitted a SOG unit, for what you get in the box it seems well overpriced for what you get. but it works!!

If it's any help I have a C403 cassette, which is a bit bigger than the 200... But a few years ago we had a constant smell from the bathroom & had difficulty tracing the source. I replaced the main seal & the smell was still present. After a bit of investigation &:a major clean out ( making sure I had rubber gloves on with no holes!! ) I found out there is a vent in the top of the unit which is something to do with pressure & it has a seal, which is replaceable. but it has to be approached from inside the cassette & a simple twist to remove it. When I first took it out I couldn't see the seal but that was because it had stuck to the inside. However when I put a new seal in the smell had disappeared. That may be a similar problem with yours. Looking at all my bits of paper & instructions I have a sheet showing how to replace the main lip seal for a C200. If you want I can scan & send a copy. Also for the C2/C3/C4/C250 & C400.

We fill the flush tank with a weak bleach and water solution and a blue sachet in the cassette and no smells to date.
