Has anyone wild camped on the island THIS year?

As peterc10 said, there were several wilding around the other side of the island. There is supposed to be a bye law trying to be brought in to prevent parking in the town but as of now there’s nothing stopping you from parking up.

It looked to me as if they have deliberately created more parking spaces at other end of the island.
I would suggest if you decide to stay in town that you email the garrison and say you’d loved to have stopped on the aire but no option not to have the electric so price too expensive for a service you don’t need ( if you don’t)

Ps if you want to “camp” I suggest you go onto the aire if in town otherwise just “park”

Forgot to say the country western festival is on this weekend. You’ll find around 30 vans parked along the seafront.

Many thanks guys. We used to wild on Cumbrae regularly but haven't been for 3 years. Since then, the Aire at the Garrison has appeared and I was worried that because of this fact, the rest of the island would be over run with "NO OVERNIGHT PARKING" signs.
Looking forward to getting back there now.

The aire was born due to the fun members that have rallied there since 2015. Disappointed in the end result though, still campaigning that it be made a no frills aire rather than leaning towards campsite. The whole idea was to get FLT like me off the front, ain’t gonna happen unless a bye law is enforced.

For those who have never been there Cumbrae is a small, but stunning island.

That article describes people driving onto the island, parking their vehicles and then putting up tents, etc., beside the road. It also says there are no toilet facilities. It then goes on to blame motorhome owners for the mess, when we have all on board facilities and certainly wouldn’t want/need to pitch a tent? Maybe someone here who has a contact on the island can put the author straight?

I for one will be sending in an email. Interesting the date says 17th Sept 22. Is that the day that its supposedly coming into force. I note the "No Parkings signs" being erected are to discourage parking which would make the signs have no legal standing. I will query this
tomorrow.

And just as I thought. I have just confirmed that there is indeed NO touring site for caravans to go to, its full of seasonal caravaners all year, telephone call just confirmed this.

Yes thats correct but I wont pay £18 a night for a pitch with electricity that I dont need. There is no "campsite" and no availability for touring caravans either. Outwith this weekend when the golf course acts as a campsite for the festival this weekend.

Surely it will be even more difficult enough to take a caravan, let alone a 5th wheel to Cumbrae, where the hell is something that length going to find a legal space? They cant fit on a normal sized Aire, or can they?
Good luck to zaskar though, I guess he is used to this problem.

No, the largest pitches on The Garrison are pretty tight and arent really suitable for over 8m.

The 5ver is our main residence and not used for weekends. Wilding, Cumbrae or elsewhere) is done in our fantastic little Romahome Duo.;) I think Calmac Largs would have a heart attack if I turned up with the rig!

Email sent. Will be interested in their reply.

Thanks. And ask if there is a TRO in force.

I had to google what a TRO is, cause I am not up on legal terms, am I correct in thinking it means "A Temporary Restraining Order" ?
As its a small island, does that mean hand cuffs are placed on all offenders for illegal parking, or do they employ some other more imaginative islandic method of temporary bondage?;) If its the later, The place will be packed out once the word gets round!
