Is this the future for camping

My father had a Renault 16 which had front seats which folded down flat to make two beds. The only problem was in summer you woke up at 4 in the morning when the sun came up and flooded the interior with sunlight. :)

Back of a Morris 1000 Traveller with the back seat folded down for me when I was a boy!

When we were at the Valencia Camperpark in April this year a young couple pulled up in an Audi. They disappeared off to reception and we went off for the day. That evening they appeared after their day out, sat out, then went to bed in the car! They did have those stick on internal screens. They were very young and presumably agile. We had assumed a tent was going to appear. They stayed a couple of nights.

Many many years ago when there was a camp site at Ayr Race Coarse, there was a Citroen 2cv and when they opened the rear boot there was a fabric tent arrangement attached ( similar to raised roof on a VW ) between boot flap and surrounding body work (make sense??)..
Assume that's where their feet went when bedded👍👍

We regularly used the back seats of our lancruiser to sleep in. Better than a tent but we do prefer the morelo 😀

Years ago aged 19, along with a couple of friends, I went to Cornwall for a week. We had a tent and very little money, I drove us down in my LHD Fiat 600 which I had bought for £5. The first night we put the tent up on the verge along a quiet road, we had a tent but nothing else, no mattresses or sleeping bags. So the rest of the trip we slept in the car, every third night we got to 'enjoy' the back seat, which in a Fiat 600 is not large. It's amazing what you can do when young, we did have a good holiday. ::bigsmile: ::bigsmile:

In the late 70's and early 80's I used to keep a sleeping bag in the boot all the time, as many a Saturday night was kipping in the car.
I had at least two VW Variants, two Land Rover Defenders, two Ford Escort estates and one transit van.

By the mid 80's I'd moved onto VW camper vans, which were far more comfortable.

Two days ago we left Dongo on Lake Como and on our last day a young German couple arrived in an Audi estate. The boot and back seat were emptied on to the grass were they got their swimming costumes and went swimming. We thought they would sleep in the car. After their swim he went shopping while she started to cook on a gas burner. After they had finished the meal with wine it started to rain, we’ve never seen two people move so fast erecting a tent particularly after nearly three hours after arriving. It certainly gave us some entertainment.
