Sorted that for you Lenny must be more useful than a water cannon, I only know one person who would buy one of those.looks like they haveruinedrepurposed a nice old vehicle.
The same way I did last week, throw it off the edge and hope it doesn't hit anythingIt's very nice indeed. But my practical mind asks "how do you get the spare down from the roof?". That size of steel wheel and tyre are not light at all.
Yes I thought "that looks a bit complicated for Jen" well actually for me as well, I read the spec and it said it was a MAN box, tell us more Jon, like how does it work. The same way I did last week, throw it off the edge and hope it doesn't hit anything
Has anyone noticed the 4 over 4 gearbox
Ooh, I wonder who that might be?must be more useful than a water cannon, I only know one person who would buy one of those.
Yep, also known as Range Change was it not Jon, and with a splitter it really concentrated your mind as to what gear and ratio you were in/needed to be in. My firstexperience of such was in a Scammel Crusader pulling a low loader trailer with plant machinery on. I've always preferred a manual gear change.Has anyone noticed the 4 over 4 gearbox
Its simple once you get used to it. It has à 2 position switch under the gear knob, low and high. So you use the first 4 gears, go into neutral flick the switch up with your finger then 1st becomes 5th.Yes I thought "that looks a bit complicated for Jen" well actually for me as well, I read the spec and it said it was a MAN box, tell us more Jon, like how does it work.
Yes Jock, I took my test in a leyland freighter with a silky 6 speed ZF and a flat trailer. It was a big shock when I got into an FL10 with a range change , splitter and a 3 axle fridge behind it,. Talk about being thrown in the deep end.Ooh, I wonder who that might be?

Cheers,

So it's just like a pushbike with a small and large front ring, use the full range on the block and then shift the front ring to high and start again on the block, a bit worrying the first time go into "first" at 40mph I guess. Its simple once you get used to it. Pretty much. The weak part was that people used to rush the change from 4th to 5th and knacker that cog (other people of course)So it's just like a pushbike with a small and large front ring, use the full range on the block and then shift the front ring to high and start again on the block, a bit worrying the first time go into "first" at 40mph I guess.
I reckon its 8 road gears but you would probably start off in 3rdVery cool, well IMHO….
So is it a four speed with four additional overdrive gears then? And… another low range four speed?
The diffs and the gearbox would have specified for the original use. I would expect a wide range but overall lowish gearing.More to the point though with a 5.7 litre diesel and 7490kg isn't this box a bit overkill, I suppose the original could have been geared a bit short being a water cannon but i'm sure they could have found a nice ZF 8 speed auto to slip in
EDIT only joking
It would probably be classed as old timer or classic so doesnt matter but would you buy it to go through city centres anyway?1974 bj
So Euro eine Oder zero
I agree actually but could be very tempted by the Vario one. Here is a slightly more modern version, much better/affordable price, and its almost converted to a wonmobile just need to furnish out the rear interior to your liking.Do you think the idea off presenting in Green favours getting a better rating nearer to Eco6E?
Love these trucks though, but wouldn't have one myself, much too agricultural to drive and noisy I bet.
LES.
Getting it down is easy, how do you get it back up again. It's very nice indeed. But my practical mind asks "how do you get the spare down from the roof?". That size of steel wheel and tyre are not light at all.
I think it would be for somebody who had a bit of a yearning to go off-road/off the beaten track, old school engineering with minimum electronics so fix anywhere, top quality habitation unit, end of the day it's a motorhome but a little bit different to your average white box in the right environment of course.Nope, my boat not floating with that, no doubt well done but WHY?
Is yours road legal in the UK?
I stood on the roof with a strap around it and a very helpful French guy helping me.Getting it down is easy, how do you get it back up again.
