Seems Spain is closing it's tourist business till they have vaccinated at least 70% of it's population which they estimate to be late summer

I've put aside thoughts about when or if I can go abroad again (I only tour abroad) but have assumed it won't be this summer.
I'm focusing upon my other hobbies and interests and making appropriate lifestyle changes. Any travel easing developments will be a pleasant surprise.

Que sera, sera............

Difficult times ahead.

meet have had a lot of enquires from Spanish tourists just recently. All wanting early booking deals.

the problem for non resident Or any property Owner that are not EU citizens, who rent their properties. Will be increased taxation.

Quite a statement to make for Spain, quite brave, quite damaging for the economy.......not sure they will be making a total ban on tourism as there is quite a relaxed situation regarding arriving by motorhomes right now.....so to control Airports and Sea ports, a fairly easy task.....are we going to see manned road border crossings again, I very much doubt it, and what about the hundreds of visitors here now, once again even more difficult times ahead.....

Yes it's not good with the increase in taxes, you pay enough as it is as a non resident, I suppose it's always been like that for the Americans here. 🤔

We have 50 nights booked mostly Spanish and a Polish family 2 weeks carried over from last year, 🙄 the last booking was from England, that's fine if they pay in euros but these cant so that's a pain for us. 🤔 Bob

That's what they are saying, looks like we will be rebooking of refunding again, 🙄 took another booking yesterday, it's a difficult time and a job to know what to do for the best. 🙂 Bob.

Sell up Bob and come home....

You know you miss us all....:lipssealed::giggler:

The Spanish government surely has to already be under massive financial pressure, the EU en masse have already refused to bail them out and tourism is a massive proportion of their GDP.

Would you really not use your van at all in this country this summer if travel abroad wasn’t possible?

I don't think that's going to happen Mo, we do miss family and friends, and hope the UK does well and the pound is strong, 😉 helps with my pension. 😁
The other thing is I'm thinking about joining Janie and becoming vegetarian, 😉 because we have more fruit and veg than we know what to do with, and the added bonus of the price dropping. 😁
Stay safe. 👍 Bob

Yes wet the bed again, thought that was our secret....not now...the whole world knows now..🤔
Was actually posted a little later than you suggest...you may not know but us Europeans operate in a different time zone...well perhaps Portugal doesn't...but they are two decades behind us....in joke...😆🥳 You have been there haven't you...Farmer drives Merc 4x4 and ploughs fields with oxen...time to include emoji 😀😀

I am not sure wether to sign over to the holiday company we used 2016 through 2019 (2020 was cancelled and we had to get domestic holidaymakers in at the last minute).

Or wether to go it alone with Rentalia which saved us last year.

With us not being there, its a little more complex. But we do have reliable people around.

Bob get a Revolut card ( others available) Then they can pay direct in to it in pounds to your £ account & when the rate is favourable you just change it to euros(y)

If I was still living in the UK I doublt if I would. We lived in Devon & wouldn't really go anywhere in summer. It was bad enough trying to get about when working to want to do it for 'pleasure'

Possibly. I should've said that so far I've only toured abroad. My trips in U.K. have only been to participate in long weekend motorbike events at dedicated locations which hopefully will recommence.
I find pre-planning and booking sites ahead an unattractive way to tour with a motorhome. If I was having to pre-plan a rigid itinerary I'd choose to go by car and stay in hotels.
For the past fortnight my son and family have been planning a U.K. programme for June and July with their caravan using CAMC sites and tells me that they are confined to visiting areas on the basis of where pitches are available rather than where they would like to go and then finding that there are spaces weekdays but no spaces free for Friday or Saturday nights. I can't be doing with that hassle as I usually just book the ferry to Dieppe a few days ahead and then go wherever my nose takes me, finding somewhere to stop at an aire or a site for a night or two at a time.
In anticipation of the situation and for the first time ever I SORN'd my m/h end November and gave the refund to a couple of hard-pressed charities so that at least some good has come of the lockdown.

Ive used revolut for a while.

I have the Gold Metal Card which works best for us due to high number of transactions.

So far, brilliant.

I pay Spanish Bills with Revolut.
Take Payments in Euros, £'s and USD.
Use it on holiday (Frejus Tunnel Charged me twice, very easy to resolve)

That was my first though, can they afford not to have tourists?

If you read between the lines, it doesnt say they wont be allowing tourists it just says they will be 'better prepared'.

Surely if this was a decision, it would be in the mainstream media, not just the Majorca times.

Anyone any ideas?

As someone has said they can not close all there borders , flights , ferry's so I can't see how they will stop people entering the country , but I suppose they could close all campsites , hotels , villas etc ?

There is no need to deny access to campsites, hotels etc, home Tourism is still going to be available, the Spanish will be having their holidays if Covid is brought under control.....we continued on our holiday in Spain last summer.... restrictions were in place and most people were sensible....
The whole situation is bad, but a recovery will happen ....tourism contributes to the GDP but so does other factors......proberbly greater....Sooner everyone takes Covid seriously the sooner it will be managed at a livable level....

Yes we have Revolut but normally use TransfereWise, but it becomes a pain taking Stirling because of the exchange rate when giving refunds, so much better with euros. 🙂
If we are paid cash, you have two options declare it 😉 or spend it. 😁 Bob.

I had already moved my ferries from Sept to October. Hpoefully we should be able to get away by then.

Suppose that they do not have the same criteria as Spain.
Their (overlanding) holidaymakers will not be able to get there.
I see.. driving through Spain to get to Portugal.....think we all have to wait a while to see how things develop on the whole....
If I lived in the UK I would take my holidays there, same goes for anywhere else, we live in Spain, last year for the first time in 23 years we took our summer holidays in our adopted country...Spain....and had one of the best two months we have had for many years....if regulations permit, we will do the same this year....😀

Tourism is estimated at circa 11% of GDP. So yes a big loss, but I’m guessing they might let me locals take holidays, just keep the borders closed for foreign visitors - so maybe not quite such a big hit as you’d think.

In the early seventies, I went on a schools trip from Gib to Lisbon.
We caught a ferry (Southern Ferries?) from Tangiers directly to Lisbon. The ferry continued on to Southampton. It was a regular weekly service.

With this recent Spanish notification, (and assuming that the Portuguese do not follow suit) , perhaps a forward thinking ferry company could re-introduce such a service.
This would negate the impact on Portugal’s holiday industry as well as the ticking 90 day clock for folk wishing to overwinter in Morocco.

Just a thought.
