Hi, my question is this. Is there enough solar power going in to keep my leisure batteries and starter battery charged or do I have to connect to EHU?
It is 10am, I have a 100w solar panel connected to two 110 agm leisure batteries and battery master fitted.
I hope I have posted photos of my controller and what the app is telling me.

The other thing I should mention is that the van has been on EHU overnight, so just want to know will this amount of input keep the batteries topped up? Thanks.

I’m no expert but these are my thoughts:

I’m assuming Battery 1 is in fact the 2 leisure batteries and Battery 2 is the starter battery. If so, the app suggests (to me) that the starter battery is flat. Is the Battery Master light showing red or green? It should be showing red i.e. receiving a charge from the leisure batteries. The fact that Battery 2 is showing 0v on the app may also be due to the app not being able to read the voltage on Battery 2.
Have you tested battery 2 using a multimeter on the terminals or starting points?

I’m sure more knowledgable members will be along soon!

Not familiar with your mppt but usually a dual controller would charge both the leisure and starter battery.I have a dual charger and it kept all my batteries full for the last 2 winters, without any other form of charging BUT I had 240w of solar. It does appear that your mppt is not connected to the 2 Nd battery, but the battery master should keep the SB topped up (from the LB) which should be kept charged from your Solar panel, subject to enough sun or if insufficient sun then via occasional EHU.With a bit more solar and a correctly working dual charger the battery master MAY/Should not be needed (as my set up has proved over 2 winters) but may be of benefit during longer periods of low solar production

Thanks for the replies. Battery 1 is both leisure batteries. Starter battery is fed via the battery master. Is the amount of charge I am getting here enough to keep all batteries charged with the solar alone. All batteries are charged and battery master working as it should. This set up has been fine since installed last March. Just wondering if it is enough through the winter.

If the mppt was wired/working correctly it would give you the answer to your question by telling you the state /rate of charge for the starter battery .

It looks like my batteries have gone from bulk charging to float. If we forget about starter battery, because the battery master will sort that, does it look like my solar will keep leisure batteries topped up. I don't know if that charge is enough.

With the dual controller you didn't need the Batterymaster, Anyway with 100 watts of solar the way the weather has been lately you will struggle with only that amout of solar.
Best to monitor it and check battery voltages weekly, do it an hour after the sun has gone so there is no solar charge and the batteries have settled.

Thanks Lenny. I've been doing this lately and using ehu for a few hours each week. Just wondered if I needed to do this as I don't know what that amount of solar equates to. I'll continue to hook up each week to be on the safe side.

If your batteries are full, you won't know how much the solar can give, 'cos your batteries are full!
