Hi Funsters,

I need your expertise.

Is it dodgy that this Ci Riviera is described as being an "Auto-Trail Camper" when I search its MOT history on the gov.uk website?

The fella told me that's what it is, an auto-trail. Is he having me on / doing some funny business?

Appreciate the help.
OB

Sounds pretty dodgy to me like it's been cloned but to the wrong make of MH

Isn't ci the patent company behind autotrail now? I think there is some connection?

I think they're both part of Trigano along with Chausson Benimar Rollerteam etc. But that MH would have been built well before they were taken over it would be a bit like advertising a Skoda as a Seat ( both VW group )

My auto-trail is listed as a fiat ducato on the mot history check page. No mention of camper, motorhome or anything else. I suspect that like most records, it's a case of crap in, crap out.

Yes. It could be the mot database has a broad range of VINs that they've mistakenly assigned to the wrong marque a decade after it was registered. There -might- be a valid reason. But it does raise suspicions. And it will do the same when you resell it.

Autotrail were / are the uk franchise for CI and roller team.

But they are certainly not registered as autotrail

My current motorhome shows as Fiat Unknown and my previous one was Mercedes Hymer. The original dealer would have known what it really was when registering it, lacking details is one thing but wrong details would have me walking away.

IMHO that is a CI as I do not believe Autotrail has every had a van with a roof over cab that shape.
But CI did and did up until a few years ago.
They are all now rebranded Roller Team.

CI aquired Autotrail in 1999 so it's possible an Autotrail Grimsby build.
Is there not a build plate on the van, that would confirm it.
Just seen a press article from 2012 and CI brands were being made then. Same as they make Trigano branded vans there.

Mine also registered as a 'Mercedes Hymer' which confused the major Mercedes dealer I took it to for its first service under warranty as they had never heard of a Hymer and had no idea it was a Sprinter.

They did the warranty service and said don't bring it back !
(I think they saw their market as high end Mercedes cars, not commercial based motorhomes)

I found this on the gov check tax site using an advert and it does show as AUTOTRAIL .
Maybe it changes when there’s a change in owner as this one changed in 2018 ?
