Just a thought I often see that people park in coach/HGV bays is that acceptable? these bays are for professional vehicles who's breaks are legally stipulated what happens when they cannot park because a campervan / motorhome is parked in their designated spot.

Open the tin and watch the worms 🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱
No not for me

Bit of moho snobbery coming out is this thread.
In answer to OP's question... IMV totally exeptable....
Just because "yours is bigger than mine" does not mean I am not entitled to park in motorhome bays.
After all, until DVLA got their knickers in a twist there is every chance us wee uns could have been registered as Motor Caravans.! Same as your big swanky motorhomes!!

Yes they do, point is should a small van take up a big space if there are other options. A big van can only go where its large enough so the small van has stopped someone else stopping overnight
I doubt I will be parking my 6.3 mtr PVC other than in a space marked "Motorhomes" just in case someone who arrives in a motorhome after me might want to use it.

He can park in any spot he chooses, first come first served, plus you don't know if that was the only overnight spot available when they rocked up. To imply that they are in the wrong because they are smaller than you is out of order.

Not overnight, but I had to use an HGV bay on a mway services as the regular parking bays were no way big enough, in my defence signs did include vans, but I did wonder what were caravan pullers were supposed to do there.

Try reading the title of the post "IS THIS ACCEPTABLE
I was asking for peoples thoughts not complaining
post #36 tells you the rules
There were no signs up and I was asking on others thoughts
The signs will only state the basics.Like mh is allowed overnight at cost of x from 6pm until 9am.

If you wish to know whether you can park elsewhere in a normal bay & overnight then you have to either attend the council offices or do as thread #36 has done & track them down online.
As posted in #36 parking elsewhere to overnight is not allowed
but the jobsworth parking warden would probably ticket them.
Yes I use a large carpark in North Devon.Usually fairly empty especially at the back. One warden will ticket any VW sze van that is not parked in the 3 9m x 3m oversize bays meaning I turn up & can't park if the half wit is about even though there are 100 spaces available. Another they do not allow,& it isn't on the signs, is if you overhang buying 2 x tickets .That is verboten also meaning anyone with a trailer can only park if they unhitch.

It is annoying but when you have jobsworth officials you can't expect anyone to park anywhere except in the overnighting bays.

& yes if 2 x vws turn up & both can get within the marked overnight bays as long as they pay there would be no offence committed.

Ed frame i suggest you read the post i put that started all this i asked what peoples thoughts were, so to say I'm out of order for saying he can't park there is in itself out of order

But you suggested that "campers" (whatever they are) could fit in ordinary bays leaving the "motorhome" bays for larger vans, reading the rules would have told you that is not an option.
Only problem with that not all males read signs, manuals, instructions do they ... :giggle:

Given the choice between a fine and reading the rules a proper deep pocketed short armed Yorkshire man reads the rules. I even read the instructions when I can’t work it out for myself.

I don't suffer the same problems parking my small MotorCaravan Motorhome (5.98m) as i did with a Bongo (MotorCaravan) especialy when towing a 4 foot trailer. At Burry St edmunds I couldnt park in the Motorhome spaces (3 Available) I parked in a specific Van space but had to unhitch trailer and turn it around with hitch over hanging the grass verge. Elswhere on Anglian coast the Bongo fitted perfectly in the parking space, a passing ticket issuer looked at me hard , parden whats the problem he pointed to the sign no Motorhomes , we give all Bongos a Ticket, even the MPVs they can appeal.
So the Real issue is one of signeage "No Motor Caravans or Vans with Windows" Don't you realise we don't want you here.

Council t&c’s often say that ‘motorhomes’ mean ‘any vehicle adapted for sleeping’ so if this car park also says ‘motorhomes must park within marked bays only’ then small pvcs will have to park in the MH bays or risk being fined. It really depends on this specific car park’s small print/t&cs.

I would describe one of the vehicles in the ops photo as a campervan the other is a motorhome just not a huge one. I'd say they're both fine to use the spaces if they're being used overnight. If anyone thinks they aren't why presumably due to yours being longer but if they as is quite likely all have the same number of occupants why should one trump another. Presumably anyone thinking the bays ought to be only used by vehicles over a certain size would also be in favour of descrimination in the opposite direction and sites to charge according to vehicle length!

What is the smaller van can park in another bay but the larger van won't fit elsewhere. Is it fine then?

No wonder most of us go abroad and spend our money there.
In France they are only too pleased to let you stop in their car parks.
Germany you are welcome to overnight in a car park providing there are no signs saying cars only.

I think yes . Presumably they're all looking to overnight and the bigger bays are for that purpose. Do you think smaller cars ought only to park in smaller places in an ordinary car park?. No one is forced to buy a big motorhome! As I said the flip side is presumably anyone that thinks big spaces ought to be saved for big motorhomes ( like berths in a marina) also accepts that sites ought to charge by the meter for pitches

You should have asked him to move then if you thought your van was more entitled to the larger space than his van.

Totally missing the point of the post.
I asked the funster community what their take on it was.

Do you park in child spaces at supermarkets even when you don't have the kids with you
Your post isn't about other vehicle types using designated parking it's about smaller vehicles using big parking spaces that you'd like to use!. The legal vehicle registration is most likely motor caravan for all the vehicles in your photo in fact unless I'm missing something one is a campervan so I could see some thinking it's a different beast but the other is a compact coachbuilt motorhome. Parking in child spaces if you don't have kids is totally different as you don't match what the space is for.

So even if there was a space that your smaller van would fit in to allow a bigger van to also to park, you wouldn't because you can park where ever you want as long as its legal and tuff luck to everyone else

It depends on the situation. It's a bit lik choosing a pitch on a site. We are pretty compact at 6m but I generally chose a pitch based on situation compared to the toilet block the view being away from the kids area! etc. We often have quite a lot of space on pitches as we never bother with an awning. It does sound a bit like having chosen a big motorhome you feel others ought to look after you. If needing a big space is a problem why not get a smaller motorhome .

Parking spaces and pitches are totally different and can't compare

Thats the point other smaller spaces were empty

You may not be able to sleep in non designated spaces, so parking in a car bay may not be an option….then it is first come first served.

Once, whilst out on our motorcycles, we pulled into a carpark with no free parking for motorcycles. The sign said EVERY vehicle required it’s own tickets. Usually we would be considerate and purchase one ticket and park both bikes in one bay. On this occasion, two tickets….so two bays. 🤷‍♂️
