The camper owner was probably worried about getting a ticket if they parked in the normal bays.

I'd have parked my self build boxer van in the MH bays too.

It's my understanding that all campers, MHs etc must be in the appropriate overnight bays and the sign maker just says MH rather than listing every type of home on wheels.
Fair point

When your new to nhing its good to know what's good etiquette there seams to be lots of unwritten rules as well as those on signed, which makes all motorhome, camper, ect owners get along and have fun.
Its good to be able to ask these questions on here to see wat the overall opinion is

Everyone is welcome 👍🏻. I did wonder about the smaller camping vehicles using the other spaces but then worried they would be fined for not being in the motorhome bays . I think the OP was suggesting maybe some flexibility with the parking situation. It makes sense for the smaller camper vans to use the smaller spaces if possible . I am very jealous of the PVC conversations and the micro campers are really cool , much more accessible for parking etc than my 7.5m motorhome . Just be nice to leave the bigger spaces open if the other slots could be used 👍🏻👍🏻
Thats the best post I've read so far

So the OP asks a simple question, which I believe is very valid as I’ve had the same thing happen to me in Bury St Edmunds and I had to move on, but then why does the thread turn a bit nasty and why does it go from a simple question to a completely different angle.

Why would someone post something stating are campervans not welcome on the forum as well 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Come on Funsters, let’s be kind to each other.

To answer the original question, I don’t believe it should be parked there, when the bay is clearly marked for much larger vehicles.

Yes, Motorhome or camper In this case size doesn’t matter. The guy in the camper is perfectly entitled to park in space.

Indeed if he wants to stop overnight he has to be in that space as far as I read the rules,

Details and charges for the Council's car parks in Ingleton.

Motorhomes are permitted to park in all Council car parks through the day, as per the charges shown on the tariff boards. If your vehicle encroaches in to two parking bays then two pay and display tickets must be purchased. Some overnight motorhome parking is allowed on the Community Centre car park. - There are 4 designated overnight motorhome bays, which are individually signed and marked with green lines. The bays are situated near the coach bay area in the Community car park and are valid for overnight parking between the hours of 6pm and 9am for a fee of £5 per evening the maximum stay is 7 consecutive nights. Normal restrictions apply as per the tariff boards outside of these times in accordance with the Parking Place Order. In order to stay on the car park overnight you must be parked within these bays and parking is not permitted elsewhere.

They are using the bays quite legitimately in my view - the bays likely say MH only to stop cars using them rather than to only allow MH specific (ie coach built) ones. It could well be that those using the bays believe that they are the only places they can park which may or may not be the case depending on what the signage says. If there are no restrictions on using the other bays to sleep in vehicles at night then yes they could use them as could a coach built so long as noting specifically prevents this, eg not allowed to or can't use more than one space etc.

There's also the fact that the MH spaces seem to be nicely tucked out of the way so likely to be quieter.

I suppose the question is regardless of what constitutes a mh, its down to size and a small taking up space for a large,
But if thats the only space to park without getting a ticket then fair play.
If no restrictions then use commonsense and park so all can enjoy parking.
I really like this site as long as all debates are fair and balanced and not taken that the subjects raised answered are not taken that its against a certain group ie campers against mh.
None of us are snobs or lesser but all enjoying the open road
Let's all enjoy it together and help each other out when we can🤪🤪🤪

https://www.cravendc.gov.uk/parking/parking-in-ingleton/ is the local council information.

I think this was a council that said fairly recently that too many vans were stopping so they clarified that you cant stay overnight in any other spaces but you would have to look at the signs in the car park to see how much the penalty charges are.
Usual discrimination, cars can park for free overnight but they charge Motorhomes. The charge is reasonable but they should charge cars as well or scrap the charge.

Yes they do, point is should a small van take up a big space if there are other options. A big van can only go where its large enough so the small van has stopped someone else stopping overnight
So is my 36' RV more important than your van? I don't think so but would be by your reckoning?

But its only stopped someone else that arrived after them? Maybe that person should have been quicker?

Look I get it, I've seen it and it is annoying, hell I've had a small van and when I've checked the signs ill use a smaller space if confident of not running the risk of a fine, but if there's any doubt.....

If the op had read the Ingleton council rules he could have saved time in not even putting up a post about small vans taking up a space that a larger van could have occupied.
It is assumed from the op that the 2 other bays were taken up with " proper" motorhomes.

Four wheels in contact with the ground, same as any other vehicle. It really get's my goat when people, including Funsters talk about how camping cars, motorhomes, caravanettes and campers do not have the right etiquette and there owners need pulling up ! Jesus!

But you suggested that "campers" (whatever they are) could fit in ordinary bays leaving the "motorhome" bays for larger vans, reading the rules would have told you that is not an option.

Getting a bit awks this isn't it over nothing . It was only a question and it just needed an answer. Acceptable or not acceptable.

But I have another question. If I rocked up in my VW...and my mate rocked up in his VW and parked in tandem. Is that erm....acceptable..;)

The LA would be stupid to complain as they would be getting twice the income but the jobsworth parking warden would probably ticket them.

Yeah Id agree if both paid..
I was on Morecambe front once and bought 2 tickets as I was overhanging ...the parkie still issued me with a fixed pen . I disagreed with him but short of having a raging Argy I left it.

Council cancelled it when I appealed. I mean why ????

Just a thought I often see that people park in coach/HGV bays is that acceptable? these bays are for professional vehicles who's breaks are legally stipulated what happens when they cannot park because a campervan / motorhome is parked in their designated spot.
