Searching on search for sites shows everything ie stopovers etc etc, I mean a map of fresh water taps either free or a nominal fee?

Not a direct answer, but most cemeteries have freshwater taps ... as do garages. I suppose how often people using them to fill 100l or 5l tanks will determine their longevity and availability.

I suspect those who live full time will keep their resources out of the public domain as much as they can .. after all they wouldn't want others to abuse the availability of the 'opportunity' to live their lives would they ...

Never come across one. We’ve never had a problem finding somewhere willing to let us fill, as long as we’ve asked politely.

Never seen one.
Are you off grid and struggling to find fresh water ?
Many garages have a tap
Not yet, heading to Scotland today with a pretty empty tank, just need to fill it really, my problem at home is that normally I park it in the street layby, but a neighbour in a one bed flat now has three bloody cars and is taking up my usual space. Now Im parked over 100 yards away and 10 runs with 10 litres of water with my back is not gonna happen.

I'll be at the Kelpies tonight though don't think there is anywhere there with a tap but planning Sunday night at the Cairngorms and I know there is one there. Not a big problem as I have a seperate 20litre water bottle for the tea and coffee :-) I just want some on board for showering and washing up is all.

I’m sure that most garages or garden centres would be happy to let you have some water if you pop in and ask nicely, especially if you buy a coffee.

With wild camping being technically not legal in most of england theres not masses of places gonna be set up or willing to part with 100 plus litres of water for passing motorhomes .
Maybe in Scotland its different?

Book a night on a site with facilities, then fill your tank before you leave .
Aye, this is what I'm thinking, I was originally heading to the Cairngorms tomorrow to an aire I know has water, but decided we're gonna go to Fort William instead :)
Arrived here at 5pm (y)

Excellent picture. You can park overnight at the bottom car park. Cars come and go but goes quiet about 10pm.

If any use, there is a facility called spotless water. Mainly for window cleaners etc. It's "pure" water not really intended for drinking but if you are using for showers, washing up and toilet flush should be fine. I did some reading that it's not harmful if it is drunk in small amounts.
Costs about 3p a litre and dispenses very fast from a pump similar to a petrol pump.

That's where I am now, this is either the third or fourth time here, has become a favourite spot on the way to Scotland.

I used to subscribe to this -Broken Link Removed- think they had a map of locations for water, but you had to join and pay to download it.

If you are using search for sites click on Advanced search - facilities and select what you need, scroll to bottom and click blue tab

Will then only bring up you selections

If you are going to the Falkirk wheel afterwards there are taps in the carparks. Just be aware the connectors are larger than normal.

Best to always carry a short hose with a rubber hose lock puch on connector that fits most taps.that way you can always fill a container up from most public taps.

Buy yourself a hydrant standpipe and a valve key. Fire hydrants are everywhere. Word of warning though. It's illegal.

I've simply filled up the motorhome at fuel stations before now.
Best bet is the unmanned ones at big supermarkets.

Takes a while, as the pipe is small, as it's designed to fill up window washer tanks and radiators.
But's it's good enough for 20-30 liters

Otherwise cemeteries usually have water, I've used them on cycle runs before now, but the tap may not be in the most convenient location to fill a motorhome.

I'm sure any hand car wash would let you fill up, for a payment, as would a farm or a garden centre

Otherwise look for the ornamental gardens in the middle of many towns, all those flowers have to be watered somehow.

Blocks of garages, which most 1960's and 70's small estates have, usually have a tap for car washing somewhere central.

(You can tell I've done this before )

Sports grounds but they take some hunting
