is there any point in home internet

I could be in a never ending spiral and disappear up my own backside.:moon2:
No phone signal in my road so have to have the internet for the Vodafone Sure Signal to work and enable me to use my phone.

You might want to check out the EE coverage there.

They did a big press launch (ages ago) showing how their hub, with installed LTE aerials on the outside of building, could deliver a good service in the really remote parts of our country.

It might not work, but worth asking them.

Edit: Hold that thought - your issue is Phone signal not broadband - got it now!

3 had unlimited data for £20 month. Use mine for streaming TV, often use 39gb plus in a week away and no throttling of speed
I got rid of my landline and have similar, unlimited, 24 months and £22..main reason was because I am selling house and will probably rent for a period

for me who lives out in the sticks with OK coverage on mobile but not super, the best I could get down copper via BT was a sad 7 ish Mb... HOPELESS...
So I've installed a gigaclear FTTH (Fibre To The Home) line here now....
INSERT SMUG GRIN HERE. :D
This is now, sort of peak time really so a bit erm "slower " than normal :D

Like a couple on here I have 3 Broadband. With our copper landline being underground for half a mile, we had continual faults and at best about 5mb download, <1mb upload
So now with our little box on the television aerial pointing at a mast just over a quarter of a mile away, we get 25mb download, 6mb upload and unlimited data. Works a treat.

Whilst elsewhere in Norfolk or Suffolk there isn't even a mobile signal.

I remember going there and finding myself back in 1957, the mobile phone was only available when the nearby signal corps were on their tea break.

Running water reached them both a few years ago so it may be worth chancing if you take an emergency carrier pigeon and morse code valve setup.

In our last home just 7 miles east of Norwich mobile signal was non existent whereas here in the Far East of Norfolk we have 4g and cable, sheer luxury

I have to agree with Larrynwin , if you can get the speed then home broadband is worth it.

Plusnet unlimited BB 72 Mbps d/l and 20 Mbps u/l, but I am less than 30 yds from the street cabinet and about 400 yds from the exchange.

As long as it makes do for a year or two 5g will be along to blow current speeds out the water.

The millimetre waves that 5G uses has a short range, buildings will be a great nuisance, which means network providers will need to develop a whole brand new, costly infrastructure. Therefore it will be many, many moons before 5G moves out from the large city populated areas. So don't hold you breath just yet. :gum:

We had our home broadband and landline shut down about a month ago . This after testing out a mifi over the space of approx 6 weeks , loaded with a smarty unlimited data sim , which is an offshoot of the 3 company, therefore runs on the 3 network . Mifi and sim has never failed for any appreciable time , both at home and while away in motorhome or visiting family etc. And we have also been in some fairly remote spots, so coverage (so far ) has been good.

Our internet usage is the usual internet browsing and we have also begun video and music streaming. Again from home and away in motorhome...... Using the mifi and smarty sim we have not had any buffering or other problems. As far as we understand the fair usage policy and smarty effectively being 3 in another guise , the fair use policy is up to 1000Gb per month..As also described above by another poster, this equates to 24/7 streaming over the entire month to reach that kind of usage. For £25 per month , on a 30 day rolling contract it so far meets our needs .

All being well, our next move will be to remove the sat dish from the motorhome and stream tv etc via mifi/sim /poynting roof fixed antenna.

Looks like an even better deal with them at the moment as pointed out by TinTentTourist.
I'm defo up for this even if its only for testing purposes with a view to ditching BT.
I could get 3 unlimited data contracts for the price of my bt broadband and I don't think we would every reach anywhere near the fair usage at home or abroad under normal circumstances.

Would you like to refer me.......we both get a free month (y) ;)
