Is our s**t worse than everybody else's?

I feel sorry for you lot.

I am lucky.

My deposits have the sweet aroma of freshly cut grass and wild mint together with a smidgeon of vanilla...

Beautiful.

JJ
Of course we believe you JJ ... just like we believe there's meat in FB pies! ?

Just a thought, but I'd check your fan in in the right way around.
Could it be sucking fresh air in, across the cassette and into your bathroom?

Maybe you’re drinking the wrong sort of beer,or not enough of whatever you are drinking.

If you have to put Aldi Bio wash in with the SOG what is the point of having a SOG? Personally the thought of emptying the cassette without some form of 'perfume' inside makes me feel sick. I have to admit I am not good with smells! I will stick to chemicals.

That's why Soggyists put bio in. You don't need it when using the cassette but it makes emptying less unpleasant.

Our SOG works fine and there are no internal smells. The OP's system is faulty I think.

And the smell is mostly from Skatole. Worth Googling. :)

some place you casnt empty a cassette full of chemicals bio is fine for all drainage systems

I fitted the sog system myself and it works perfectly well. We don't use any additives and no smells wafting back. I would say you must have a problem with your installation.

MY shit doesn't smell.
I have no problems unless I put a chemical in the cassette, Being royalty must help. The butler empties the cassette.
However the position of the cassette operating handle make you lean forwards with your nose what you need is a remote switch and handle. However with a sog you can light the exhaust with a lit taper to burn off the Methane Greenhouse gases.

Thanks for all the thoughts, both serious and funny.

Given that a) my installation is as per the instructions, and seems to be working, and b) others’ SOGs work properly, I am going to change the filter, and maybe see if I can make the pipe shorter in an effort to reduce the resistance to the airflow.

It may be the answer to my initial question is “Yes”, though my wife says that it is definitely not hers. Poor deluded soul.

dont go too short as sooner or later the end will detach and youll need to cut back for a new bit to reattach

Similar to you but decided on a work around, I decided to fit some small LED courtesy lights in the toilet for late night visits, save putting on the main lights and disturbing the other occupants ( Me)
So used a 12 volt switched PIR to trigger the LEDs as you open the door,
Then had a eureka moment and decided to operate the SOG fan using the PIR,
But I went one step further and put in a second larger fan downstream of the first to really move
The air/smell out towards my neighbors , it works well and every body is happy ?
My secondary fan comes on as you open the toilet door before the the slide is moved so any fumes
Are already on the move out of the vent,

That seems an elegant solution, thanks for the thought. It would be so helpful if I could have a pointer or two, particularly about the switches and the fan. Not my area of knowledge, but once I have the parts available I should be able to install it all.

Cherrs,

Peter

that should be “Cheers”, of course.

Hi Peter
This is the PIR I used to switch the fan and LEDs,readily available from eBay , quite simple to wire up
And you can adjust the time the fan/ Lights are on for,
I used a quality roller bearing computer fan and plumbed it downstream, my fan vents beneath the MH
So was easy to put the secondary fan between the double floors in the vent pipe work,
You can move the PIR sensor away from the module if needed,

Thank you, I'll use that information and hope to be able to apply it to my own setup.

I'm grateful.

Kind regards,

Peter

It won't hurt to pour a capful of bio washing liquid in it - just as an experiment.
It's all we need and we have no SOG
