Having recently had an error light and subsequent engine check light come on I’m looking at ways to be prepared for something similar and not rely on external agencies! When Fiat Assist sent out a low loader the mechanic had a handheld OBD reader which he reset the engine check light. This was not a Fiat Professional mechanic just a local breakdown company. Which makes me wonder if my vehicle doesn’t have an SWG. If so then Multiecuscan will work ok.

On the year quite probably, perhaps as it was fiat assist his OBD reader was compatible as with SWG I understand you can read faults but not clear them ? There is a bypass cable available for about £20 and plenty of pics on the fiat forum where to fit it allowing multiecuscan to work

It won’t work with any obd reader I don’t think, contact Gendan automotive they are very helpful and will know what’s compatible and also they sell the cables

There is a short section in this guide about SGW. If you get confirmation as to if you have SGW as seperate module or within the BCM please add it to this thread.

21/22 probably SGW, 22 poss in BCM, 23 in BCM not bypassable

SGW is a minefield, those bypass cables work fort of but if you have a decent OBD reader with a subscription to the security gateway then that's the best way, some have an SGW some don't it depends, mine does and my mate has the correct reader. I have multiscan with all the different cables but its a pain to get to the module as its under the glovebox area, it sort of works but don't trust bypassing the module.
