Is it worth joining the caravan club?

I don’t think it costs too much but wondered if you get discounts or anything on pitch sites or insurance?

Thanks

Lots on here will say no, but I'm a member, you can get discounts on pitch fees, members have access to the certificated locations. They do discounts on insurance even on ferrys and cruises. The issue for some, their sites are regimented park to a peg and are expensive but each their own

I'm in the CAMC and the C&CC the membership fees for both equate to £2.28 a week .
we use both clubs depending where we want to be in the country .
Don't have any real issues with their sites or the prices , you know what to expect .
Now queue the haters and negative comments about the prices and the rules :reel: .

I am a member. Only use CLS, but the main advantage is it gives me 50% discount off the Wightlink Isle of Wighr ferries. One trip off the island discount is twice the membership fee.

I did a comparison on ferry cost for Dover Calais and for a 7.5 m motorhome by booking the same ferry through the CC site and P&O direct, I would save my £66 membership fee in one booking by booking with P&O. Haven't travelled with P&O since they sacked all their staff though.
So I would say if you plan on using ferries then you may well get your moneys worth.

I have booked a couple of their sites and didn't think they were that cheap.

We saved £35 on our recent ferry crossing and slightly more on our last one so membership paid for, this means the fantastic magazine is free 😂😂.

Don’t the C&CC offer all of those benefits too?

I'm a member, I used their CLs and also discounts on the tunnel and the red pendant travel insurance which is good for medical conditions. Well I hope it is, I've not claimed yet, hope I never do 🤞

Every time I looked at booking the tunnel or ferry it was cheaper to go direct. Then when the temporary sites started ending I left the club (c&cc)

If motorhome club do THS as CCC does I'd say yes. I've found great value with THS and really friendly people.

Key for me is that the CAMC do not allow members to pay for a service visit and is the primary reason that we cancelled our membership. For an organisation that has the term Motorhome in their club name, that is disgraceful.

Thankfully, the C&CC do permit such visits.

Another benefit that I have found is the pricing structure - you pay per person plus a pitch fee.

Most commercial sites include 2 people in their price, meaning as a single traveller, I have to pay for my imaginary friend.
I wpa I’d for my imaginary friend last year too.

I've never considered joining either as that's not the sort of camping I do, however the ferry discount could be interesting.

Is it just P&O they have discounts on or are other companies included?

(I'm sure it's in the T&C somewhere and I suppose I should go and have a look for myself... :D)

I'm member of both, had £60 off insurance and just had £70 off Stenna ferry to Ireland booked through camc paid for both subscription, sites aren't cheap but then none are here.

I find the Caravan and camping club good for the weekend meets and temporary holiday sites, especially down here in Cornwall.

Caravan and motorhome club were good for insurance two years ago, will see next week when I do this years.

The ferry discount is rubbish, I quoted for Dover last year and it would have been more than if I'd done it myself.

If you do use sites then the saving you make when booking is okay. Not sure how many nights you have to do to get your money back.

I got 20% off the tunnel

but only on some of their sites not all and providing the site isn't busy its at the site managers discretion .
I've phoned ahead to Dunstan Hill between 12-1 be told that no I would have to wait until after 4pm as its was a busy day and they were expecting a lot of arrivals and that was just an average weekend

That seems fair enough. You can’t have it all ways. They should give priority to people who are staying over. They were managing demand.

We belong to C&CC. You also get 10-20% off in places like Trespass, Black, Millet etc. I know you do with NT. Always worth asking. Plus online. I have my Blue Light card so it’s just habit now to ask for something!

that right you cant just rock up and expect to get on to use the facilities , site manager told me its not a guaranteed and sometimes they just refuse depending how busy they are.
He also said some members get uppity when asked to go away and return when its less busy

but only on some of their sites

Well, I dont know what the proportion is but I can guarantee that it’s a lot higher than for the CAMH, which, after all, was the point of my response. 👍

I’m not sure that I understand what you mean.

As a paid up member who is leaving space on sites for those who wish to use sites and is seeking only to use, and pay for, facilities that are advertised, how would I be asking for too much?🤷‍♂️

For us we joined C&CC for the THS and club meets.
We used to love the Skegness school one, also the one at York rugby club. Both of them got cancelled along with a lot of others which made the remaining THSs booked up. so I didn't renew our subscription.

I think it’s a nice thing that we get with the C&CC, you phoned and they said “yes you can but not until after 4pm when it’s quieter”. I think that’s a very reasonable response. They are trying to manage their services on a busy day that’s all. If it had been a quiet day they would have probably just said “yes”. I don’t think it’s that complicated.

I agree entirely, it’s brilliant that they offer this service but I’m not sure how that’s having it all ways.🤔

We get our Green Flag breakdown through the CAMC, called Mayday. Covers car and van. They will i understand cover heavier vans which ordinary green flag doesn’t.
Otherwise we have not benefited from any discounts.
It is cheaper to use a club site if you are a member, they add to the price for non members.
We are members for the CL network which we use a lot. We use club sites once or maybe twice a year, probably no more than 6 night in the year, if that.
We also are members of the CCC for their CS network and older persons discount on their sites. We had hoped to use their THS facilities but are yet to find one we wish to visit.
