I like this guy on utube but I think on his latest video he is saying that if you don’t keep upgrading your electrics to the latest regs. Then in the event if a fire an Insurance company could use old kit as an excuse to refuse a claim!
If that is the case 90% of vans on the road today could be affected, can our resident Sparkies advise .

He states 'At that point in time'...which says it all. Provided the install is to regs AT THAT TIME, it's fine.
Totally agree, the regs can not be retrospectively applied. If your van was built to 17th edition regs published in 2008 then as long as the system was compliant then it is compliant now. In 2008 LED’s weren’t a mainstream lighting source for example, whereas now they are probably THE ONLY domestic light source available new. The 2008 regs catered for the safety of discharge lights, fluorescents etc, now they deal with those AND LED’s. RCD's have grown up too, BUT they were safe in 2008 and they are still safe now.

I am not a sparkie but I agree that single pole protection should be replaced on a motorhome. This is especially the case if you are using an inverter because they often have both wires live, so switching off only one will not be enough to make them safe.

However not so sure about the insurance angle. If new regulations were applied to existing installations we would probably all have to have our houses rewired every other year.

Wiring regs changes have never been retrospective. How can they be when they change cable colours etc.? Are you going to rewire your older house because it wired throughout with red/black+ earth cable? Yes, if you do a complete rewire, but pulling out perfectly good cable for the sake of it? However, if you add to the wiring, that should be completed to the latest regs.

However, with a motorhome, people might wish to be aware that the changes in temperature and vibration will have an effect on the covering and insulation so it may deteriorate faster than in a domestic environment. The van would have to be very old though.

I agree. But I believe that all motorhomes/Caravans come with Dual pole? I know that my previous 2 commercially built motorhomes 2005/2007 models had dual pole. My current 25 year old caravan (2000 model) also has dual pole rcd and mcb.

If a motorhome has single pole I would be furious with the manufacturer for scrimping a few £ to increase profits.

Yes, I think he knows a fair bit about motorhome building but obviously doesn't understand that the regulations he speaks of are not retrospective, neither does he have any evidence that insurers may not pay put in the event of a claim should an owner not have dome the modification he speaks of, I perfect example of someone giving advice when they "think" they know all the angles even though well intentioned and perhaps well versed in other areas. I wonder how many people have taken their van to a dealer for a professional habitation check including gas and electricity to be told what he is suggesting. I suspect the answer is none and if someone checked with their insurer they wouldn't have a clue and would be perfectly happy to insure the van with no requirement for this modification.

Regulation changes only apply from that date forward but other regulations can involve making updates mandatory I.e. renting rules can include annual inspections, mains powered smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors ect (not necessarily motorhome rentals).
