Planning on visiting the Emerald Isle in September for 3 months.
Will cross from Holyhead to Dublin.
Any suggestions whether to turn left or right.
Not taking the bikes on this trip but will have our Paddleboards, bodyboards and all of our mountain walking gear.
Thanks for any advice.

I think I'd go straight across and then probably turn right. In three months you have plenty of time to cross back, do big loops, figures of eight or whatever.

Your challenge will be timings of weather and what may be open as the summer season ends many campsites will close so you will find it more challenging for black waste and other amenity. Atlantic weather systems can start in September making west coast less pleasant. Do west first and then later move inland or Eastern coasts.

The convention is that you go anti-clockwise so you don't keep meeting tour coaches coming the other way, but of course, then you can get stuck behind one watching the arse end of a coach for miles rather than the views of the lovely countryside.

We were advised when we toured NZ to keep the coast on our left.

This was because you want to stop often to look at the scenery and not cross the road 😊

If you go clockwise you will more likely have the sun at your back for the spectacular W coast although the peninsulas point every which way.
