Hi,
I'm not sure I want an annual hab check... it seems to cover loads of stuff that I can check and fix myself. The paperwork for hab checks done by the previous owner shows items ticked-off that I know were faulty... coz I've fixed 'em and they were clearly faulty when they left the factory.

What I would value is a gas safety check every now and then. A previous owner had a check done and the paperwork says "Caravan / boat gas safety inspection record" - looks like the kinda thing I need.

The only thing like that I can find near Ipswich is The Caravan Technician. I've been told that they don't do certificates, though... which is odd. Shouldn't I expect a certificate? Like CORGI-qualified or similar?

I guess the big dealer, Marquis, will do them maybe?

Any recommendations?

Cheers!

There's someone in Thorpe le Soken who does them, so about 20 miles away. He's also mobile so might come to you?

Thanks MisterB - I'll try them.

I've just had a quote of £100 - £60 plus £40 call-out. That's to check LPG tanks, regulator, lines and appliances.

Sound reasonable?

'Gas Safety certificates' for motorhomes certainly exist.
My motorhome has the certificate pinned to the wall of the gas locker by the installer.

As a landlord I have to obtain gas safety certificates for every property every year, I go around with the engineer and we do them all in one day. It's basically to check the condition of all the appliances and ensure any work that has been done is up to spec.
(I am now using generation number three of the same company, so any comments along the line of "I wouldn't have done it like that", my reply would be "take it up with your granddad")

I would have though any competent gas engineer could do you a certificate, as the only 'extra' they have to check is the age of the cylinders and the state and age of the pigtails and the regulator.

Otherwise anyone local that installs/repairs gas items in Caravans or Statics, which along the coast in East Anglia there are thousands, so perhaps give the local Static caravan park a call and see who they use.

You could save the £40 by going to them !

£60 is about the going rate for a gas certificate in London, and about £40 in Kent.
(With no call out charges, but then I'm a regular customer and the distance is a couple of miles at most)

sounds reasonable to me, or save £40 and spend it on a weekend away on Grange Farm campsite, which is less than ten minutes away from where he is? or is there anyone else local to you so you can share his travelling expenses?

Give Tony a call, he worked for Stowmarket Caravans before they packed up, and started on his own. 😎 Bob.
