Having just purchased a 2000watt inverter I have to sadmit I was not fully aware of what “ups” meant (I do now)
the inverter came with ups built in.
so to my question once I have installed the inverter can I just connect the ac out of the inverter straight to the consumer unit supplying all of the 240v on the Moho?
if I am correct when the shore power is connected the inverter switches off and when unplugged the inverter kicks in?
would appreciate any advise/experience with this.

Picture of the inverter and it's label will help us to help you.

Personally I wouldn't entertain having every 240V appliance/socket being fed from my batteries - it could kill them quite quickly! Unless I had a BIG battery storage capacity.

Most people have an inverter that you plug a couple of essential items in to like charging an ebike or medical equipment (or the odd hairdryer) rather than powering the whole vehicle. Whole vehicle is possible but take care with battery capacity and type.

why when unless there is something plugged into the socket it is not going to drain the battery. we have the victron multi all power points are live from the batteries with no issues

I may not have worded it very clearly the reason I wanted to connect to the consumer unit so I don’t have to mess about with sockets etc.
I am only ever going to run a couple of things from the inverter namely the aircon short periods when not on hook up and the microwave few mins in the morning.
we do most cooking on gas, the tv is run from 12v, usb chargers 12v, heating gas in winter if not on hook up.not much on 240v really.

This type of inverter is designed for you to plug individual appliances into the sockets on the inverter. There are specific issues in connecting it to the consumer unit that means it is possible but technically complex. Firstly you need to have an isolating system that switches between the EHU and the Inverter and secondly, you need to consider how you will earth the inverter, making sure it is isolated for the EHU (so you don't have the inverter in circuit with the EHU connected.
