Hi all
I’ve got a Renogy 2000w inverter on order and need to order a fuse and cable to connect it to battery.
Can anyone confirm cable size (1m length) and fuse size
Thanks

For 2000W, the amps at 12V is 2000 / 12 = 167A. Add 5% for inefficiency, and the amps is 175A. Using the Voltage Drop Calculator with length 1m and system voltage 12V, you can try various cable cross-sectional areas (CSAs) to see what the voltage drop is.

It's recommended to keep the voltage drop below 3%, and 25mm2 is the minimum that will do that. However 35mm2 or 50mm2 is better. You could try a 200A fuse, but it's probably more reliable to go for a 250A.

Hi, I am considering adding a Regony 2000w inverter along with a fogstar 300 A battery it would appear to be supplied with the cabling so if i fit a 250a fuse to the Pos would there be any problems going direct to the battery and not involving any busbars, in my defence im not much of a sparky.

RichardB How did you get on with the Renogy Inverter? As I have one on order. Do you know what size are the terminal studs are please, can't find it on Renogy's site.

Hi. It’s still in the box - my lithium battery is delayed so haven’t had it out to look at yet

Ok no worries, was going to order the lugs and cable so will wait, mine should arrive soon.

Depends if you have a shunt fitted or not I think. Ideally with Lithium you want a shunt and something like a Victron BVM so you know what power you have left. If shunt is fitted all negatives need to connect to the shunt

Although voltage doesn't drop off much with Lithium like it does with L/A I would aim for around 1 % volt drop, so for 1m cable length I would use 50 mm2.

Hi, in the Renogy inverter box, are a remote switch, 2x pos 600mm cables 25mm and 2x neg cables the lugs are 8mm, also the the installation pictures show the pos and neg lugs opposite to whats on the iverter itself. Bill

BILL 875 Just seen this thanks.

fit a 250a fuse
Re a fuse between battery and inverter the Renogy instruction manual does not indicate one is required, and their connection diagram shows the cables fitted directly to the battery. What is the purpose of an additional fuse and if required why is it never mentioned in the documentation on any inverter I’ve seen?

Other question, I’m looking at a 1,000W Renogy. The largest load we have is a 1,000w air fryer. That should work ok? Reluctant to move up to the 2,000 Renogy for both cost and weight so I’d be looking instead at something like a 1,500w Edecoa from Amazon.

I looked at sunshine 2000w inverters they had 10mm cables they were a bit miffed when I suggested they were on the small side said they were tested and ok at that so forgot that them.

I have a 2000w Sunshine Solar inverter that will be for sale very soon. Mine has not got cables attached to it, it has 10mm connection studs, so you can connect any size cable using a crimped ring terminal.

Did they get mixed up thinking you meant studs by any chance...10mm will overtheat at 2000w
