On 4th van so not a total newbie....
After this weekend in hot stuffy conditions, just wondered if anyone can recommend decent quality fans for the rear, off to Germany in a few weeks so will probably be warmer again, would be nice to have something we can also leave on at night. At this stage not particularly looking for a roofvent style, as only suitable vents are above the drop down bed, and in the toilet compartment.

Cheap - 12v car / dash fan off ebay

Expensive - Endless breeze fan

Low low cost... Bit of cardboard and get naked (y);)

We have
  • cheap eBay oscillating fan 8 inch 12v, noisy rattley but works v well. We even have a spare one as first broke, we fixed it but spare just in case
  • Fiamma vent fan that can be put in an open window or standalone, 12v or lots of batteries, can be used at night on low.
  • Rechargeable usb fan directional clip on, could be used anytime but only effective in small areas.
  • Tried small usb fans but rubbish
To shift air you need big blades 10 inch plus, one reason the endless breeze does so well.

I Have a small 300 watt inverter fitted and use a 240 volt fan, only draws about 40 watts so leave on all the time, solar panels keep the battery topped up. I tried 12v fans but found them to be hopeless.

I just bought this 12 volt fan last week to use in the van, but it's had a lot of use in the house, plugged into 240 volts via the supplied plug psu. It comes with another lead which has crocodile clip terminations, but I've swapped them for a cigarette lighter adapter bought from The Range. I don't know how it compares with the Endless Breeze fan, but for half the cost, I'm more than happy.

JML Artic air cooler USB or mains HERE.

We have an endless breeze but for most of the time we use a couple of these Dunelm USB fans as we can move them around and aim them to suit where ever we chose to individuality sit and at a tenner a time they take some beating. (y)

Cut another hole in the roof and fit a Fantastic vent. Had them in the last two van. Set them to blowing out open a couple of windows on vent setting and you get a nice cool breeze through the van. They have a thermostat so once the van has cooled down they turn off.

Thanks for all the replies, I thought about an inverter and mains fan, but at 3-4 amps will hit the batteries if used for long periods, ordered the one suggested by kaasbrodje, hope it comes in time otherwise may try a couple of the dunelm ones.

I had a mains one like this wedged in the skylight blowing in, worked very well but I've superceded it now with a home made DC one (y)

Don't know if my maths is right , but I'm fairly sure that a 40 watt fan used on 240v mains uses less than 0.20 amps.
Watts = volts x amps

Yes on the high voltage side, but the inverter will pull 3.3 amps from the battery (plus losses)
12 x 3.3 =40w

We have just been through a few 34 degree days in France and Endless breeze made it manageable.
