Hymer b654
Just in the process of buying a 1996 Hymer b654. Where is best for insurance please?

There is no best. Everyone is different.

You could try a search using one of the insurance search engines like confused.com

Off the top of my head popular one's are Comfort, Liverpool Victoria, Ripe, Caravanguard, CAMC. Etc etc

You'll need to get a few quotes to get an idea.

Try searching 'Insurance' on here- there are loads of discussions on it.

Insurance is risk based on individual circumstances so it's a matter of ringing around I'm afraid.
If you look in the insurance section there are suggestions of where to look.
I use AIB (brokers) and get funsters membership discount.
The usual comparison sites tend not to work too well for motorhome insurance.

Start with Comfort as the benchmark company.
They only insure motorhomes, and they have recovery as part of the deal.

Recovery is important as the AA/RAC etc will only tell you at midnight in November in the driving snow on the side of the M1 that 'sorry mate, your motorhome is to big/long/high/heavy to go on the back of the low loader'. At least Comfort should be sending the correct vehicle.

Check windscreen insurance.
If you have a 'A' class vehicle, the replacement windows are between £2,000 and £4,000 to replace.
Make sure you know what the excess is and whether they will actually cover it at all.

Check annual mileage:
Most of the companies have maximum miles per year.
It is now easy for anyone to access MoT's on line and see what the mileage has been in previous years, MoT to MoT.

Check storage rules.
For example we are only permitted to have our van at home for 24hrs.
They checked our storage location security (airlock gates, CCTV, guard, lighting, fencing etc.)

Also give NFU a call directly - DM me for my local office chap as they understand MH and RV and happy to cover A class windscreen for example.

:pink: to Fun.

I notice the OP's Portugal location which may be relevant but, sadly, another who hasn't been seen since the time of the post.
