Received an email from Comfort Insurance 20/06/23 with a renewal offer. Now I thought this was a bit late coming because my renewal date (I assumed) was 11/07/23.

Just had a call from Comfort saying they don’t automatically renew and that my insurance runs out tomorrow at midnight so insured up to but not including 08/07/23.

Now to begin with, my insurance with Comfort started on 12/07/22 so should it not run out on 11/07/23 ie 12 months.

Every insurance I have had has always been for 12 months, why is Comforts different?

It wasn't when I was last with them, I moved to NFU when they nearly doubled my renewal. Get it clarified but in the meantime look around for better quotes, Try LV too.

It should be 12 months - check your certificate of insurance, that'll tell you the start and finish dates.

We've been with Comfort for the last 7 years, but their renewal quote is ridiculously high this year...over £900 . It wasn't really a surprise mind....when we changed the MH earlier this year (from a 2017 Rapido 9094 to a 2017 Carthargo C Line) we had to pay quite a large uplift. Even so, according to the numbers on the renewal notice, its still a 16% increase over last year's premium (or what last year's premium would have been if we'd had the Carthargo all year).

A quick check around and it took 5 minutes to get a much lower quote from Caravanguard: less than £550 for 1k more miles (confirmation via email that windscreen cover is unlimited and won't affect NCB).

There is definitely price gouging going on in the insurance market at the moment. I've just renewed my building and contents insurance. I've been with Home in One for twelve years and was paying £31/month. This week they wanted £43/month fir the renewal.....a 34% increase!!! When I asked for a justification (nothing had changed) I got the limp excuse "I don't know. The company we work for has increased it's prices". I shopped around and actually got a better policy with Admiral for £30/month. It's verging on criminal when companies are doing this during a cost of living crisis and when government tells you they can't intervene because 'it's the free market' then you know this form of capitalism is failing the vast majority of us.

Maybe it's the number of claims affecting premiums it won't take many A class windscreen claims to make providing unlimited payments not affecting NCB look a bad bet.

My Aviva Online car quote was £383, which they kindly told me compared to £287 last year. I went on price comparison websites and the best I found was £454. Looks like I’ll be sticking with Aviva!

My home insurance with Aviva went up £30 , sounds like we were lucky. Didn’t bother to shop around as it covers our electric bikes.

AIB went some way to matching a far better quote I had for the car elsewhere last year but that £360 from LV went up to £650 on renewal last week. AIB couldn't match Aviva's £495 saying LV have traditionally quoted low for the business but have followed the market this year. I'm now with Aviva.

So spoke with Comfort. Apparently, I took the insurance out on the 8/07/22 but on the 12/07 I asked for a letter to confirm my full no claims bonus.

This is classed as an MTA (Mid Term Adjustment) so new documents are sent out stating the insurance runs from the 12th. So that answered that.

The renewal was £43 more than the previous year which took it to £426, this included full European Breakdown Cover. Happy with that so renewed.

Thanks for your replies.

My Comfort Insurance was £389 last year to £429 from 15 July this year. This includes European Breakdown Cover. Happy enough with that!

Comfort
Insurance with them for last 12years
Last year £400.09 inc breakdown and European cover
This year £542.12
No changes, no claims, phoned asked to explain the 35% increase, response it’s down to Aviva removing discounts, what a load of rubbish.
Shopping around, and must say that big increases are everywhere, not decided where to renew yet, due 16th July.
Sign of the times, everyone wants more!

My son sent me a link for: https://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/bertiebasset001 and so far have saved a fair bit on bits and bobs. Holiday to Cyprus saved £56. House insurance managed to reduce by £70 after Saga offered a £50 discount for "loyalty"after 9 years and raising from £129 to over £200. Wifes car is now AA and saving of £30. You get cashback from ebay and many other stores. So far I have "earned" almost £200
