Sorry another insurance question thread!

We are collecting our new MH next week..yayy!!..and I am currently ringing around for insurance quotes. NFU seem to be the cheapest so far at £459, but I had a quote through Safeguard for LV at £650, however as we have our car insured through LV I have rung them this morning to see if I could get a cheaper quote direct. They can link it to our car insurance on a multi policy...each vehicle independent with their no claims so that is good and they quoted £83.58 o_O now I know that is only up to 1st May inline with our car renewal, but even so it sounds so cheap for a brand new Motorhome so I am worried its too good to be true! They say they have a more basic cover for MH...i.e £1000 personal possessions... they do not take full model details only that it is a fiat and the engine size, so am worried it is ok.

Has anyone had any dealings with them when insured on 'multi vehicle' and was it ok? I'm thinking it would be good to do it this way as at least our renewal would not be right on Christmas but I also want to make sure I have decent insurance as we have had dealings with an accident before and although Admiral were great in paying out for our vehicle, the legal cover to finalise the claim has been extremely slow and still not settled after almost 2 years!

Thanks and sorry for so many questions!

That does sound very cheap, I would be wanting to see details of the cover provided, especially if they are saying they have a more basic cover for MH. It might be better to pay a bit more and have proper cover that you are confident in.

Had house and car with LV for years, and MH was with Scenic since 2019(new)
Added HM to multivehicle with LV as £200+ cheaper than Scenic wanted for the same cover.
Also cut out the middleman.

That is reassuring to hear. I think I just need to read through the cover, she said she did it like for like on our car cover and that they give market value on MH using glass valuation which is standard.

For market or replacement value it’s worthwhile getting a print out from the dealer of the price your MoHo would cost at the point of delivery and not what you paid when you ordered. Going on the Adria online configurator shortly before we took delivery I was gobsmacked to find that the price had increased by 28% over what we paid, with the dealer saying they expect another £5-6k increase in the new year!

I wouldn't be happy with that the way prices are almost rising daily.

Sorry to have to tell you that it took almost exactly 4 years to settle my no-fault accident claim back in 2004. Finally settled the day before it was due to be heard in court :(

I think the other people's insurance were playing brinksmanship.

We have had our van covered for last three years with LV= although never needed to claim and the cover is as good as any and very competitive.
the more policies you have with them the cheaper they get😊

Am assuming you told them the value of the motorhome? I'm assuming if its 'new', then it will be worth a lot of money. I had to switch insurance companies recently as they had a threshold of of about £35K for motorhomes without an alarm. The value of ours had risen about 30% since purchase. I am not going to fit an alarm as we are selling soon so switched to Comfort as there alarm-less threshold is £45K. Maybe also check if you have to make a claim if it's like for like?

Some good points in them, There are others if you search for insurance/LV etc.

NOTE very important LV have motorhome insurance T&C's that are not fully detailed in the motor insurance booklet etc you see quoted as it says it's a car policy. Have spent some time talking to LV and can't get a copy of the motorhome policy wording or cover difference between MH & Car.

Therefore only deal direct with LV, (T&Cs are not as good if you a broker) note date, time and agent spoken too. Ensure you list all extras and fittings include costs, make sure the agent understands the vehicle is not a van and not the base model MH (if extras fitted)
If in doubt email LV with details and costs. Also note the cover for personal items is not the same as others and is limited. So make sure your home insurance can cover the difference. Ah nearly forgot LV don't care much about tracker or alarm it seems.

Good luck

Oh no that is depressing :( I cannot believe that although the police accident report confirmed he was fully at fault and that there was bodycam evidence that he fully admitted losing control on the bend as he was going too fast and his friend saying the same, that he can still hire one of these no win no fee solicitors and try it on and that you are allowed to even do this. The policeman dealing with our case said it happens all the time as being a motorcyclist they hope to try and get 'vulnerable' road user in their favour, as he could potentially get a large sum of money. How can you knowingly cause an accident and then try to get money for it!! It really upsets me as my dad died in a car accident and it has brought back painful memories. Anyway fingers crossed this year will be the year it finally settles!

So sorry to hear the bad memories are brought back.

In my case the skid marks, witnesses in another vehicle etc etc and the other driver's statement was all very clear I was not at fault. The police officer in attendance said that had I not been an experienced driver who took instant avoidance action he would have been dealing with fatalities.

My son turned right at t-junction traffic lights and there were 2 police officers in the car behind him. Our car was clipped after my son moved for the green light. The Police thought the other driver was going to drive off so put their blues on to stop him. They told my son to move his car and then refused to be witnesses thereafter.
As a neighbour (an ex cop) said most Policemen would have 'remembered'. I have no confidence in the Police.

Sounds very similar to ours, policeman said the same that is what I do not understand. My husband used to ride motorcycles so instantly knew what was happening and that avoidance probably saved his life as we were driving a truck type vehicle, if he had gone over the front it doesnt bear thinking about. Likewise we were lucky as the car coming the other was being driven by an ex police accident investigator and the Motorcyclist had cut in front of him at speed and he knew he wouldnt take the bend, we overturned so had he not already stopped it could have been us that were fatalities, so for that I am grateful at least.

They insisted on tracker for my quote, with as new replacement value over 80K.

We have just added our PPVC to our LV policy and despite using same millage 5k per annum, EU cover for both, both garaged the van is around 60% insurance cost of the car, the car is worth around £10k and the van around £40 k so = Weird.
I telephoned to query this and was told same policy as car = all glass / windows / excess etc etc, Dash cam, reversing sensors and cameras make a difference and not interested in a tracker for additional discount.
All telephone calls are apparently recorded how on earth they find them though, no idea I asked for a reference for the telephone call but they do not give them out.
Hopefully will never find out if to good to be true or not, but probably is, Currently have a claim going through them for a cracked panoramic glass roof, Which has been handed over to a windscreen company to supply and fit ( four man job to fit and a full day to remove most of the roof lining etc ) Currently waiting for stock from Land Rover so could be a very long wait, fingers crossed along with other things.

Sorry, can only advise our valuation figure was over £90k with extras and whilst we had fitted alarm and tracker (required when bought as then insured through AIB) LV didn't care.

I don't believe the policy for Motorhomes and cars is not the same.

If you read the car T&Cs in detail, plastic windows are not covered. Raised this issue when insuring the MH with LV, "Please wait I'll Check" Apparently covered as its a motorhome. BUT another instance where the buyer MUST read all the T&Cs and query anything you not sure about.

As said in previously linked posts. LV screen cover is up to vehicle market value (Bought direct) through a broker it's somewhere between £600-£800
