I've just had the renewal through for my multibike policy. The renew small print states that I'd be limited to 90 days abroad, maximum in a policy year. I'm not going for this due to us being able to be away for up to 270 days this year.

It appears there are different 'small prints' for differing companies. Some say 90 days max per year and some say 90 days max per trip (which would still be better for us).

My questions to those using their bike and/or scooter for more than 90 days abroad are:

Do you have a policy allowing you to ride abroad for more than 90 days in a year?

If yes, how many days?

And finally who is the policy with if its for more than 90 days?

Many Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Dave & Clare

We are full-timers and spend about 9 or 10 months on the continent each year. Each trip is in excess of 4 months long.

We have our Peugeot Metropolis 400 insured with AXA via Carole Nash. When originally purchasing, we advised them that we would be out if the country in excess of 90 days.

I have checked the wording today and can see no limit of 90 days mentioned on the policy.

May be worthwhile giving them a call to see.

My bike, (sv650) is insured through CAMC I can travel 90 days per trip no limit on the number of trips and it is covered fully comp up to the 90 days per trip however if you accidentally or deliberately go over your 90 days you are still insured but only covered to the minimum legal requirements of the country you're visiting not fully comp.

I thought all policy were 3rd party only whilst overseas.
Unless you buy additional coverage,

It depends on the policy, you need to do your research, they are not all the same.

They are indeed all different.
Some of mine are 90 days in Europe at 3rd party only. After 90 days if you don't call them to extend in theory you are not insured.
As said you can buy additional coverage and additional days.
Insurance a bloody minefield.

You are always insured.minimum 3rd party cover .standard in UK and throughout the EU. Been that way for60 years in the UK.
I hear you but having talked to my son who worked for Carol Nash for 4 years he said you could be opening yourself up for a hard time claiming if you have not notified your insurer you will be going over the 90 days.
Some policys are 90 days hard cap, some 90 days per trip.
Says also all underwriters have different T&Cs.
Always best to check with your particular provider if you are going over.

Very true. Yesterday I had a 60 minutes of my life with Carole Nash, that I'll never get back. Firstly, with an unhelpful 'on line chat' assistant. Who had no knowledge and did nothing, except say no. I've done a bit of work with a call centre, when it was being planned and eventually set up. Whoever wrote their 'knowledge based articles' was rather 'unknowledgeable'.

This was then followed by an unhelpful, unwilling, ill informed, very poor English speaking individual. I doubt she could count to ninety in English, never mind understand the 90 day maximum. I've now got to ring them again, to confirm the multi 90 trip because the small print, which came later, still says 90 days max in one year. Even after explaining my situation.

This was all after a frustrating conversation with A plan insurance, upon renewal quote, who told me 90 day was max. After a conversation with someone there the previous year, who told me it was 90 per trip. Totally same set up, with same insurer AXA. That time it even took three requests to ring me and a complaint.

I totally HATE every bleedin' insurance renewal.

That's good to know. I'll ring them first and then cancel Crappy Nash.

(y) (y) and there lies the problem. Should you need to claim they the bastards will do anything to wriggle out of paying if you have not 100% cleared this 90 business.

My son was on the motorbike side of CN. When the situation dictated he used to break out into arabic to confuse the issue further.

Would you be better coming off the multibike for the scooter? Do you get to keep the separate NCD's if you re on multibike?

Ive got our scooter on with Bemoto because they gave me Morocco cover, pretty sure there's no limit on EU but the covers seem to change fairly often.
Personally I'm not bothered about comp on a Motorcycle, IMO if you need comp its probably the least of your problems.

:giggle:yes, that's what I've done. Each bike/ scooter has its own ncd. Thankfully I'm not desperate and can take my time. Luckily here in Cavalaire, we don't need the Vespa to get around.

There again i was under the impression it's THE Rider not the bike that earns the NCB so the NCD can only be used on one bike.
I had a big issue re this just recently.

Every day's a school day :giggle:

My insurance through CAMC is with Devit, it is underwritten by Aviva, if you're a member of CAMC you may get a bit of a discount by going through them.

Just tried through camc, came back through AXA with maximum 30 day trip. I'll give them a ring.

I just looked at the Aviva site for premier bike policy and it seems they no longer do it, perhaps that is just for new customers as I renewed last year with no issues.

The underwriters are Markerstudy

I remember years ago when I needed insurance I just went to the local brokers shop and sorted it out with real people face to face, and came out with the paperwork in my hand. I don't think such things exist any more.

I remember the days you could make a phone call and almost instantly speak to a English speaking human to sort the issues you may have.

I am with Carol Nash / AXA and my policy does not state a time limit. Just continental use

It's mad how two seemingly similar quotes can be so different. I'm waiting for a call back.

Looks like you are only covered for the the minimum requirement needed for that country which I am sure all insurance does as gus-lopez said in a previous post the 90 days I have is for the same cover I have in the UK ie fully comp it might of changed now with leaving the EU.
