about two weeks ago we were singing the praises of Biteaway heat pen well this weekend Denise has been bitten a lot, Some went down with the heat pen but these Ones seem to have not reduced in swelling or itching.
Summary Biteaway works on some but not all.

Looks like harvest mite (also known as berry bugs or chiggers) bites to me. My friends garden is almost a no go area for approx 8 weeks starting end of July but this year they have started a bit earlier. They can be incredibly itchy and annoying. If anyone knows what to spray the garden with to eliminate them then please let me know.

My pharmacist said to use steroid cream on my horsefly bites. I have some already prescribed but you can get mild ones over the counter I think. Worth a try. Those would drive me mad!

According to the RHS forum, there is no way of controlling them in the garden.:(

Bugger!!! We've bought one but haven't been bitten yet. Hope it bl**dy well works when we go get bitten!

Fuciderm is the best antiseptic cream I've ever come across. It tackles bites, grazes, cuts and soothes as it heals. The other day I picked up 10 or 12 roof tiles and whilst carrying them felt burning in my inner forearms. There were a couple of hundred ants running all over my arms and also inside my sandals. I got at least 100 bites, but half an hour after putting Fuciderm on there was no sensation of pain or burning. Same with mozzie bites. It stops the itching straight away.

Avon Skin so Soft to keep midges and mozzies off and Fuciderm to treat anything that bites or stings you. (y)

Tried smidge spray this year and it's not unpleasant to use unlike other's.
Also used after bite pen and not had too much problems.
Feel sorry for you that looks nasty.

Horrible, and turned the toenails purple too. :)
If we are sitting out in the evening we invariably have a mosquito coil burning slightly upwind of our feet. This seems to reduce the number of bites significantly and of course a repellent. Smidge for us, it doesn't melt plastic. :)

Ouch and I thought I was being bitten a lot :(
But nothing compared to those thankfully

I get bitten to hell by mossies and various other things and react quite badly.

The best solution is to try and keep the bites to a minimum rather than try and deal with them afterwards.

Avon Skin So Soft does work although it's a faff.

The best thing I've found are Parakito bands https://uk.parakito.com which we discovered in France a couple of years ago.

They've worked almost perfectly for me for ever since although whatever brand of mossies habit Camping Jasmin don't seem unduly bothered by them :(

I've looked up Fuciderm and it appears to be for dogs and other animals? o_O

Is there a human version?

Possibly. We get it from the vets where my wife used to work as her bosses really rated it and carry it everywhere they travel. At the time we got our supply it had not been licensed for human use. But I thought that there now was a version available for human use.

Right that's it I am off to the vets with her in the morning (y)(y)(y)

Ouch i now the feeling i would get bitten in the artic!

I did :(

I am also covered with bites and I have a bad reaction to them. I have to measure how big the inflamation gets and make a APN emergency appointment if any gets to more than 8cm across :(

We had to go to the Hospital whilst at Shrewsbury for bites Three and a half hours later came away with 500mg of antibiotics 4 times a day so we are keeping an eye on these.

I tried organic Aloe Vera gel on insect bites on my legs. It felt soothing at first, but quickly made them much, much, worse with huge itchy red lumps and left scars afterwards. An adverse reaction which I know seems unlikely with Aloe Vera, but watch out if you have sensitive skin.

To be fair, mine was under the brand name Aloe Pura and the additional ingredients were slightly different from the one shown in your link. Obviously I can't rule out a reaction to one of the other ingredients.

Prevention is better than cure. Best kill those biting critters before they get me!

We have to be so careful not to get insect bites as Sue had all the lymph nodes removed from her legs as part of her recent cancer treatment and any infection could leave her with lymphedema for the rest of her life. It's a faff spraying her legs with jungle formula and Avon skin so soft then making sure she has leggings on then socks to fill the ankle gap but that's the way things are and they have to be done. They say that if she hasn't got it three years after the op it's unlikely she will but there are still two years to go and we aren't taking any chances. Walks round towns are preferable to walks around lakes!

Onctose is the go to insect bite treatment in France. Can be bought online in the UK.

That is a horrendous amount of bites, did it all happen in the UK?
