Hi,
Have a 2009 Rapido with just an MCB, no RCD. Had a Hab check done and guy suggested I get an RCD fitted for shock protection. Not got a lot of space to add in and RCD so wondered if an inline RCD on my EHU cable would do the same job of shock protection? Most inline ones I see are 13 or 16 amp. Is 16 amp at 30ms sufficient? My EHU cables are only 16 amp and sufficient for most EHU across the EU... Would appreciate your thoughts...

What MCB do you have? Are you able to swap it out for an RCBO?

16 amp will be fine, the hookup current is a max 16a.
You could buy a small consumer unit for a regular RCD and mount it where there is a space for it
it doesn't have to be next to the existing consumer unit providing it's between the hookup socket and cons unit.
Also, you will probably find the breaker in the hookup post is an RCD anyway.

No idea if rcbo would fit. Not opened the case up so don't know if I could add an RCD in or how to tbh....

Yes, there always is an RCD but it's a trust thing, relying on a sites protection, rather than protecting myself... Just looking at the easiest way to do it....

Loads of room to fit an RCD in there, 16 amp will be fine and 30ma trip is correct, you need a type B.
Thx Lenny. When I open it up will I just see the input wires from EHU point into MCB then output to charger next to it? If so, what wire size should I get to link from RCD to that MCB assuming it is as simple to fit as that....? May I assume this would be easier than an inline RCD?

1.5mmsq will be fine, yes it would be a lot easier.
Just move the input wires to the RCD then the output from the RCD to the MCB input.
