Completely new motorhomer
I only got my motorhome last year, so not sure if these is new or always been the case.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the price of caravan club campsite prices, but I find independents to be much more expensive

I have just been planning a 4 night trip in Wales. I have a stay at Gowerton for just over £20 a night. I think this is very reasonable for July. Many of the independent sites in the area want £59 a night! The cheapest independent one was £39 so still almost double the cost of the CAMC site. I dare say there are some cheaper CL or CS locations in the area, but I get electric, showers and toilets for £20 a night at the club site. Intrigued why people think the CAMC is so expensive when I rarely pay above £25 a night

Are you travelling solo?

I find the two clubs cheaper than commercial sites because I don’t have to pay for my imaginary friend.

Take a look at this thread.

That price seems very cheap for CAMC so I thought I would check the prices.😂

We paid £30 5/6 years ago on our last ever stay on a CMC site in Cromer.
Its obviously cheaper if you are travelling solo as there is the pitch price, plus so much per adult.
Trouble nowadays is the wife refuses to hide in the wardrobe, even with food supplied and a small TV she says after a couple of days, she gets bored.
Indie sites, especially farms are usually cheaper, but might not have all the facilities that CMC offer.
Haven sites off peak £10 per night, with restaurants and bar, haven't tried myself but many on here do & often at that.

Poppy and Hamish Not familiar with the area you talking about.. However, yes my experience is that club sites are usually dearer than independents.. 👍👍

Yes I saw that, and that was partly where I formed the view people find them expensive. But, in my experience they are usually cheaper than independents. I just did a 16 night tour of Scotland using a mixture of CAMC and independent sites. There wasn't a wide difference in prices, but the independents got both the cheapest and most expensive spots. CAMC sat in the lower half but not bottom

Interesting. I did a 16 night tour of Scotland with a few stops on the way up and down, and it wasn't the case then either. They weren't the cheapest sites, but definitely all in the bottom half price wise

To be fair, I think most people who comment about the price of club sites travel as a couple.

This adds probably £10-£15 to the cost per night.

Sorry. I do not understand... you now would appear to be contradicting your original post ??

I don't see how I am contradicting myself sorry. My point was I don't see why people think that Club sites are more expensive when the evidence I have seen does not support this view. My first post gives evidence of sites being 2 and even 3 times the cost of the closest club site. My other comment comparing a different experience in Scotland is showing that club sites were cheaper than the majority of independent sites, even though the actual cheapest site was an independent.

Yes but is that the price for 2 people?

Sorry may have misunderstood you.. However I bide in Scotland and I have to disagree with you that Club Sites, even up here, are cheaper ( unless of coarse you not referring to full sites, But CL/CS's ) than Independant sites.
IMO independents give you a pitch.. if you don't want leccy, don't cost and does not matter how many in party...
However Club Sites give you a pitch with leccy Included whether you want it or not and then want extra for Mrs Poppycamper..
Just done NC 500 and the very few Club sites up here were vastly mire expensive (for us) than other sites..

No problem, it was late when posting so I may not have expressed myself clearly. That's a fair point about EHU. I always book EHU pitches. I did use all club sites on the NC500 the other week (if using CCC/CAMC sites I mean) I have never used a CL/CS. I was actually mistaken. Club sites did win for being the cheapest. On the way home I stayed at CCC Glencoe It was £17.75pn, hardstanding with electric.

Other costs were Brora, 21.90, Dunnet Bay 23.20, Kinlochewe 20.70. All club sites with electric.

My most expensive independent was £29. The cheapest £18. Hence, independents, with the odd exception were in the most part more expensive than club sites. Like for like comparison all with electric, although a mix of grass and hardstanding. Although obviously the disparity in prices is less compared to my experience in Wales, where the independent sites were 19-39 pounds more expensive than the club site. Even factoring in additional costs for an extra person, I doubt the club site would charge 19-39 pounds more per person.

We, as a couple, can’t get a CAMC site for £20. Big issue here is single versus couple. Even more expensive if taking children over 5.
