Just got a quote with Ripe insurance (when are we getting the discount Jim?)
They insist we have an immobiliser fitted, due to it being a Ford vehicle.
So, a couplle of questions... What exactly is an immobiliser? I guess its a hidden switch to make the electronics inoperable.
Also, where do we get one sorted for the van.

Thanks peeps

Just says thatcham approved. I see rhino installs supply and fix for anything from £265 to about £600

I would have thought you would already have a factory fitted immobiliser - maybe you missed that question. Comfort insisted on a tracker being a Ford.

Nearly all UK specification vans have been factory fitted for over the past 10 years with an insurance approved Thatcham category 2 immobiliser to prevent the van engine being easily started up by connecting the starter motor wire to the battery positive supply. I’d be amazed if your van doesn’t have one. Ask Ford.

NFU have a requirement of a Cat 2 immobiliser, which should be standard on any modern vehicle. An aftermarket 2/1 alarm will raise the Cat 2 to a Cat 1 standard. If your insurers are not happy with the Ford system then you may need a professionally fitted aftermarket addition, the Thatcham standard requires installation by an approved installer as well as approved kit.

BrianJane They were certainly happy to accept my factory fitted alarm and immobiliser system on my 2008 Ducato.
Have you got any discount codes?

Thank you for the discount https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/members/bobby-gg.69066/
I think Ive sorted it now. Quoted £303 which includes windscreen cover up to £1000. Ive now clicked on full eu breakdown cover £86, eu cover 41 and protected no claim cover £41. Total 480 ish. Does that seem about right. Maybe i`ll search for separate breakdown cover. swmbo has cover through barclays, but I doubt that will cover a motorhome.

Yes, I didn't go with euro recovery as I already had RAC euro recovery, so probably on par with my price.

Glad that you're all sorted 👍

Motorhome noobs: Looking for a motorhome/campervan
I just had a quote from Ripe and I think the request for a Thatcham Approved immobiliser was because of the value, regardless of a factory fit immobiliser being on the vehicle.

newbie but learning fast
Depending how old the van is it should be fitted with a manufactures class one immobiliser.
I think the factory fitted ones are Thatcham 2
