Don't own yet
Hi to all! I'm Joao, I'm portuguese living in London. Basically, I getting tired living in London, and really would like to do something different in my life, so I thought to move to Greece but came across in my mind an idea to live in bus and enjoy the road's freedom and adventure. But I need some help to initiate this, my initial idea is buy and transform a London double decker bus into a home, but when I get to do my diligence about which driving license I can use to drive, how much it will cost monthly, how to create a sustainable bus (electricity, water systems), etc. It becomes too confusing! I could go for a van, but i need some space as i have build my own electric low rider bicycle and I want keep it with me (see photo) so i would like some orientations or some guide to not waste money and work my stuff smoothly.... so I hope you guys could help me on this. Peace and love

I hate to put a dampener on enthusiasm, but converting any bus is a major and costly task and there is a reason a lot of people would not consider it. Depending on the double decker you choose, your biggest outgoing will be fuel as they typically do about 5 miles to the gallon of fuel (that's less than 2 kilometres per litre). A journey to Greece is about 4000 miles or 6500km return so being generous 3,250 litres of fuel at £1.40 per litre, that's over £4,500 in fuel alone plus oil, fluids, tolls, ferries etc. if you get away with under £10,000 I would be astounded.

You mention a London bus, so you probably mean an AEC Regent (RT) such as used in Summer Holiday or an AEC Routemaster (RM or RML) both of which attract significant interest from enthusiasts and therefore change hands at a premium. If you can pick up a Routemaster in full working order at under £40,000 you will have done extremely well. This RT sold for over £80,000.

Three RT's (and a spare kept in the UK) were used for the film. Several fully trained bus mechanics went with it and of course they had the budget to match.. Only one of the three buses went overland, the other two were shipped out. Of course in the film they did not actually live in the bus.

Yes it can be, and has been done, but you need very, very deep pockets.

Forget the double decker bus idea.

They are VERY limited where they can drive outside the UK, in most cases they need a special licence granted by each local council for each town/city and are limited to specific routes.

London double deckers are also illegal in certain countries, such as Holland
(A charity took 3 x London double deckers to Holland a few years ago. A three were impounded, eventually one was allowed home with most of the passengers, the other two were held 'hostage' until the court case when all 3 drivers had to appear and pay the fines and then were escorted by the police straight back to the port.)

You would be better off buying a PVC second hand conversion (Standard panel van) done by someone else, using it for a few months to find out what you like/dislike before then attempting your own conversion.
