We are hoping to head from Roscoff towards San Sebastian in May. Heading down the coast, any preferences between the two Iles and any recommendations for aries or sites nearby

Half a dozen journal entries (3 apiece) for both islands in the journals.

There is a toll bridge to Re but none to Oleron if you want to factor that in.

That’s nice to hear about ile de re I’m going there in June on a tour round France 😊

Being a commoner Île d'Oléron for me. I've visited the other one but it was a bit too posh!

But visit both and see for yourself. It depends what you want really. Each has it's strengths.

Île de Ré would be my choice too, but it's extremely expensive to eat or drink out.

We stayed at the aire in Saint Martin. Well located for the town, but very tight for space.

Good quality and good value seafood and shellfish (including oysters) from the local fish markets.

The island is very flat with lots of cycle paths so great for seeing by bike.

The reality is that in May either is likely to be fine. June onwards, all the Aires can get very full.

Olleron gets our vote , both are lovely ( of course -it’s France ) If cycling and chilling are on the menu. We are veggie but foodie, less expensive on Olleron to eat out and more veggie options . ❤️
