Hi all, we are going to Ile-de-Re in August and then up to Batz-Sur-Mer roughly a week in each. We will be using our bikes locally and we are going to purchase a folding dog trailer (that's a trailer that folds not a trailer for folding dogs) lol! We are hoping to get the bus to La Rochelle so does anyone know if we will be able to take our Springer/lab cross on the bus with us?
Many thanks in advance.

See page 7 of the regs here:

where it seems that 'small' dogs are FOC and O.K. 'if carried on the knees, in a cage (see dims) or a bag'.

Unless the dog fits in a hand bag then I would tend to say no chance. Last year some scum of a bus driver eventually let us on to travel 20km to the beach and then he refused to bring us back!!! Some very lovely people in the restaurant took pity on us and fetched us back.

You can cycle nearly all the way from the island to the centre of La Rochelle on a dedicated cycle path. It’s only when you get close to the town centre that it becomes a shared route.

The bridge climb is the only really strenuous part but it’s not too long and is well protected from other traffic.

As for the rest of the island it’s a cycling paradise. The small beach on the east side of La Flotte was our favourite for swimming - and handy for refreshments at the harbour eateries.
