If I were PM….

I certainly agree with a multimeter plus an OBD scanner... (y)

…. I’d make it the law that every motorhome, caravan and campervan had to be sold with a multimeter and a 230V socket tester. The buyer would have to pass a test to show that they knew how to use them!
Why the socket tester?

Isn't it the same thing though 😉

A compulsory handover video on how everything works, where it is and how to fault-find, or a compulsory membership of fun 😆

Not putting anyone down but sometimes the things people ask on here are truly incredible that they have spent maybe 100 grand on something and they haven't got a clue how half of it works or what they need or where to park it.
I know everyone has to learn sometime but the basic things a lot ask about ought to be general knowledge before even looking at a motorhome.
OR should have been told by the dealer.

that last sentence made me chuckle when so many dealers, or so it appears from posts on here, don't know how things work..

As someone who has spent years of my life on campsites as my parents spent all summer school holidays in the 1960's and 70's in tents,
and I've been a Scout leader since the 80's, so 3-5 camps a year under canvas for the last 40+ years.
Plus we have had campervans and then a motorhomes over the same period.

There are many things we all know from from decades of experience.

However there are many many people who have never camped before, never really been in a motorhome before the one they buy, and have been 'sold' the idea from the brochures and shows where, as we all know, it's sunny every day. ;)

I spent a lot of time teaching camping 'tips', camping etiquette, leave no trace, how to keep warm and dry, what food to buy and then how to cook it.
There is a lot to learn, and every day is a learning day, even after you measure nights on camp with a comma in the figures however you count it.

I would always recommend to anyone looking at buying their first motorhome, rent at least two before you buy!
You will learn a lot, and also know what you really want/need, not what the salesman says you want/need.

I thought I new a fair bit about mechanical, plumbing and electrical things, then I started looking at post on here and found out I've barely scratched the surface.

Tottaly agree, nearly everything I buy and try to understand it before purchasing, just seems the normal thing to do for me.

The one that makes me crease up every time is: “My mains sockets all worked at home, but now on this rally field they don’t work, why?” Luckily, they have Fun to ask the question on and don’t normally get mocked for it. Apologies to anybody who has asked that question though, I am sure you can see how funny it is now.
The thing that amazes me just recently is the number of newby’s that ask one question get fantastic answers and discussion then never join or even say thanks.

You wouldn’t get it through Parliament.

I have been "motorhoming" for fifty (50) years, over 30 years of them living full time in the van of the day...

Two years ago I bought a new (to me) Burstner Privilege (2.8ltr Turbo - 2006).

My God!

I didn't know how to turn on the bathroom/shower lights... I didn't know how to control the Combi water/blown air heater... I didn't know fully how the 3 way fridge worked/behaved or how the swop over the gas bottles... and the list goes on and on...
... then I thought about the folk spending their pension lump sums buying their very first motorhome!!!

My goodness, they have a steep learning curve facing them!

Thank goodness for Google and YouTube and OF COURSE Motorhome Fun.
