IF we ended up with a van with a decent amount of lithium……
would I give up my Remoska and go for a ‘Ninja type’ cooker?
I’m not asking about the amount of lithium I would need, I’m asking if a ‘Ninja type’ cooker would do what I want.
I want something that will cook Chicken legs/thighs etc sitting on top of assorted veg.
“. “. “. that will give me jacket potatoes
“. “. “. that will reheat foods like chips, bread, or a stew.
“. “. “. that will bake bread or cook a cake.
Is a Ninja type cooker up to all that?
What size would I need for 2-3 people?

We use the smallest 4.7 litre Ninja in the van simply because it was superceded in the home by a bigger one. It does all of the above….. we have 600AH lithium so energy budget is not an issue. If buying another I would go for the 6 litre smartlid one which is a lot more versatile. It works well, both on hookup and off, though care must be taken to ensure that the heating is off when using a 10 amp EHU

You'd never fit 2-3 people in one .

We have a ninja at home but bought a cheap 900watt airfrier for our recent trip, Lorr managed to cook our full Xmas dinner in it with a bit of part cooking of certain items before finishing everything at the same time. We don’t have massive lithium or solar yet, if and when we do we might go for a bigger airfrier

We use a Ninja Foodie at home but to big and heavy for the van.
Have a medium size I think 4.1 Lt air fryer in the van, surprising how creative you can be with it, as we don't have an oven.
We use an induction hob for cooking outside.

Don't think he could ever sing, just killed a decent song by David Gates.:crying1:

I am a Remoska Oven Fan, I use at home mostly unless we are on a site hook up, which is rare as we don't use sites anymore, only rally fields or CLs with no EHU.
I did observe how popular the NinJa Air Fryers had become, so bought the large Twin Draw one. When we opened the box and sat it on the worktop, yes it was big, but even so neither of the draw looked big enough to fit a whole chicken, or Gammon joint, so we sent it back for a refund.
The Circular 16-1 loos like it would suit us more as its supposed to be a 3 way cooker, it steams, bakes & Fries ITIIRC:rolleyes:
It was arround £200 and would use a fair bit of Lecky, so I have shelved the idea for now, and will stick with The Remoska, plus The quintessential Tefal Deep Glass lidded Sauté Pan which we use every day at home and in the van, I think we may even have a stock pile of now of differing sizes.
PS: I prefer oven chips to the darker air fried ones.
Happy cooking Folks.

We've had an oven type air fryer at home for 5 yrs plus, but bought a drawer type for the van ,we used it on one 2 week break as soon as we got home binned it and bought another oven type, eldest daughter bought drawer type for her flat had it a few months and changed it for oven type(with no knowledge of what we had done) Ours in the van draws 170amp from the battery (640ah lithium) when heating .....on 200c circa 40%of the time it's cooking obviously the lower the cooking temp the less time it is heating.

We have a double drawer Ninja and a large lift up lid type at home, use them regularly.
Hardly ever need to use our hide-and-slide oven any more.
Had a quick look at remoska's as I'm intrigued but it looks like it's a pan with an element in the detachable lid.
If it hasn't got a fan for hot air circulation then I would think it's not going to be as good as an air-fryer.

A Remoska Oven, is an Oven so it Bakes like an Oven, it doesn't Fry, so no fan is required to circulate the heat.
It also uses less electric than a Ninja like under 500 watts, but it doesn't have a thermostat to regulate the heat, which IMHO is its achilles heal.
Once you have tried out a Remoska, found out its method of cooking, good points and bad points like burning the top if not attended or the use of a cartouche ring of tin foil to protect the food from charring, you are well on your way to success.
We use ours for warming up many things like pastry items, pies, flans & sausage rolls.
We use it for jacket potatoes, baked potato dauphinoise which is a game changer(y) Hot pots, lasagne using Hob to cook the mince, then layering pasta sheets, sauce, cheese sauce in the Remoska pan.
Whole chickens, Lamb Steaks, Pork chops, home made Yorkshire puds, sponge cakes & even Bread, plus many other meals like curries, baked fish fillets the list is very long.

it doesn't Fry
An “Air Fryer “ doesn’t fry either. It is just a fan oven. Anything you can do in a conventional oven you can do in an air fryer. The name air fryer is a stupid name for it, that stopped me buying one for years, but now I have one, I can’t remember the last time I used my home oven.

I have a twin drawer ninja and can fit a chicken big enough for 4 adults in one drawer and the other drawer I do the roast potatoes in. I can use the meat temperature probe in the meat to know when it’s properly cooked.

So remoska has a smallih heating element at the top no fan and no thermostat ? Where as an air fryer...oven or draw type has a bigger element at the top which can effectively be reduced in size/effect by use of its thermostat .It also has a fan to distribute the heat to reduce excess heat in any particular area,I maybe missing something but seems the remoska has several disadvantages and no advantages,I don't think the overall power consumption would to cook like for like be any saving ...taking longer and element not having a thermostat (although I would have thought some kind of thermostat must be incorporated may be not visable but purely to prevent overheating)
Shure there's something better about them as they are very expensive and very popular....
I await enlightenment

Yes Landy, it can't after all fry air !😄.

Air fryers are the same as a domestic fan oven; just smaller.
We do most things in our Ninjas and/or on our induction hob.
Our domestic fan oven is pristine!
Alas in the van we havnt got an inverter and rarely use ehu so we have to make do with the diesel hob.
Our 12v compressor fridge/freezer gets fully loaded with easy to heat meals before our trips.

I wonder why they are so expensive.
Can only think of one possible advantage, light weight compared to most air fryers.

See my other replies, but an air fryer is actually a mini fan oven.

The only advantage I can see is lower power consumption, but they will cook for longer, as lower power and no circulation. So potentially not less power used, just lower load.

Must agree with others and air fryer can't fry it is an oven with a fan at the top behind an element so air is blown over a hot element where a conventional fan oven has a fan at the back circulating already hot air

Whats confusing then is why they call them "Air Fryers" then?
If you coat anything with a small amount of fat/oil, then place in an oven, fan assisted or not, then surely its being oven baked & seared at the same time.
I will still stick with The Remoska as I have served my apprenticeship now over the last 6 years, and know its good & bad points through trial & error. (y) ;)

Agree completely. I didn’t want/get one as I don’t “fry” anything. But watched one being used, and worked out the thing it doesn’t do is “fry”

Minor correction, our domestic Bosch fan oven has it's element at the back in same location as the fan so it's the same as an air fryer except the fan & element are in a different plane.

Yes, they don't even fry air(said that elsewhere in this post)😂
Great if your happy with your Remoska and being smaller it will be lighter, so more suited to vanlife perhaps.
But it probably doesn't use less power due to no thermostat and I would think in a domestic situation an air fryer would be more versatile.

The Remoska uses less power but for longer.
Remoska will only ‘blow’ your EHU post if you have lots of other things on, it’s only 500w.
Remoska is lighter (possibly smaller too) than a lot of these ‘Air Fryers’.
Horses for courses ………..I’ve seen a horse in the kitchen (not in the van) but I’ve not seen one cook a meal yet!
I will stick with my Remoska for now.
Thanks for the lively debate.
