Hi, I'm quite a fan of installing myself at some busy, interesting, family type event for the weekend, if there is a bit of live music, things with engines, beer, and pretty girls, then those events would be high on the list.... but I'm open minded. I'll put a few ideas to get this going, please add to, if you know of any good events that you visit annually (non-uk is also ok) then add to the list below, or expand on a particular idea if you can recommend a particular event.... the bigger, the better ! doesn't have to be 'mechanical' in nature
If you can add to say no. 3, copy the whole list, paste the list in your reply, add your related idea or suggestion beneath no.3. If you have a new idea not listed, then paste the lot.... and add a new number at the bottom.
I hope it's ok to do this, hope it works

1, Silverstone F1 (unfortunately, I cannot justify the cost of this)
2, Car show at race circuits (eg Bug Jam at Santa-pod)
3, Steam Fair (haven't sorted a good weekend event yet)
4, Air Shows (RIAT looks great, but camping may not be on-site)
5, Country Fair (only been to Sunday events, not sure on good weekend ones)
6, Model Aeroplane show (Woodvale started my interest in this type of event)
7, Your suggestion

2a, The Gold Cup at Oulton park. End of August (See their website for details)

2b, Thruxton circuit allow cheap camping at their events.

2c, Pau Grand prix.

2d, Angouleme.

(For details of motoring events in France consider acquiring a copy of this book.)

If you like airplanes/cars/fire engines/motorcyles/models/wine - take a look at this chateau (also listed in above book).

3, Welland steam fair. A dozen or so from Motorhome fun attend this event.

4, Southport air show.

5, Bit late for this year - Chester Food Festival.

I love it how the OPs suggestion on how to take this forward is instantly ignored!

Might be worth calling them? I got an e mail yesterday suggesting that some tickets were still available. At this late stage you might however struggle to get camping at the event though. 2019 could be a better option for you, but definitely book early!

good point, and for sure... I'll book early next year !

thanks for your reply, I've tried to book the GDSF, unfortunately, either I'm too early, or their online payments system isn't working... and they don't reply to their contact form.... or their email. Bit strange, will try to reach them by land line today. looks a good show, I'm guessing it's bigger than the Lincoln and Bedfordshire events ?

GDSF is massive the public campsite alone covers 170 acres accommodating over 5000 units so make sure you can recognise your van.. You need to be fit to get around everything!!
It's their 50 Anniversary this year....we have applied to exhibit but not heard back yet.
Lincoln and Bedford are both really good value for money but tiny in comparison to Dorset

thank you so much for the info :)
