Ice making machine

Seriously for a moment, we have a professional ice maker for our restaurant. New they are very expensive but we have a smaller Polar ice maker. It does not need to be plumbed in and makes great ice.
Despite being small it is quite heavy, probably 20kg.
This is for a French site but just use the picture to give an example.

Sante!
PS I hope that you are a traditionalist who is using lemon? None of this new wave, Communist lime or cucumber nonsense!
I've got one of these, had it just over 2 years and the water tray mechanism has gone faulty,I do not recommend,.I'm struggling to find anyone to repair it.☹

You could always buy some re-usable ice cubes. We took some on our last trip out and they worked a treat :) They also don't dilute your drink when they start to melt! :)

They're available all over but here's one link.

Sorry to hear that. Ours is 6 years old and we use it a lot. Polar is a brand that are respected in restaurant environments and we have a professional fridge and freezer by them as well as a display fridge. Its a brand that I have always gone for and never had a problem BUT there is a design issue with the ice maker which I should clarify. It is difficult to empty of water as it is a heavy bit of kit and needs turning upside down.

It has also probably been superseded by other brands now as time has moved on. Ours is still great however.

I assumed Europeans campers would have fully automatic ice makers built in, like most America campers do? Ours is made by Norcold

Bags of ice are readily available, certainly in France and Spain

HKF Should be an easy fix, send me the specification, it will be on the box or the unit itself

Yes,turning upside down to empty is ridiculous. The drain bung does not empty all the water and old water sits in the water tray which you cannot get out without turning upside down.
We to have Polar at work ,4 freezers, drinks chiller, and a walk in fridge, there good units for freezing ,chilling. Its the moving parts on the ice maker thats let it down. I would like to get it repaired cause it wasn't cheap.

Most of the compact ones are rubbish. When we had a bigger motorhome we had a Lec ice maker.

Made in the UK with a Whirlpool ice maker inside. Made buckets of ice but was bulky and heavy.

Now we use this

We have a 230v ice maker which is brilliant. First ice cubes in 12 mins and then every 8 mins till you stop it. Only trouble is we left it at home on this trip. Hahahaha

You're probably better off fixing it yourself if it's part of the mechanism, unless you get an engineer with experience of this particular machine, or badge engineered equivalent, he'll have as much idea as you have 😏👍

I dont think I can ,the water tray has a mind of its own,up and down it goes. I think its the brains that makes it work thats gone wrong.🤷‍♂️

Well after nipping to Lidl this morning and looking at their ice maker @£89 it is quite a big lump so maybe better sticking to our compressor cool box and a bag of ice from the super market, we can also freeze a few as Floydster has kindly sent me the recipe 🤣

Here’s the Aldi one. Cannot recommend as I didn’t buy one.

Ambiano Ice Cube Machine for just £79.99. Check it out: Broken Link Removed
I have the above but have never used it in the van , I use it in my gym in summer , place the cubes under a fan .
It’s v efficient and makes cubes very fast .
The only downside ( van wise ) is that it’s heavy .
It’s just very good at making ice cubes 💡

We got ours from lidl last year £80. Fits nice between the front seats and is used to put the ice cold g and ts on it. Result duel purpose. It has been a god send in croatia and now when its 35 degrees. Its been a real winner. It means that we don't have to have drinks in the fridge.(apart from beers) so helps the fridge by nor overloading it. I don't have to worry about how much ice I'm using so just fill the glass with ice and top up with gin oh and a bit of tonic!! I noticed that they were in sale at aldi this month for the same price. Regards Sue
What do you use the fridge for then ??

WE buy Broken Link Removed, partner loves them. But should one really be drinking alcohol in very hot weather??

Like most things I have never liked, I do try a Gordons Gin about once a year, just to see if my taste has changed, as it did for things like Olives/Marmite, even Peanut Butter....but NO its still horrible, even though I am told its only Juniper flavoured Vodka.
But then to add Tonic Water to it ! Tonic Water is so sour, I just don't know how anyone can drink it, they say "its so refreshing" but that's what the tramps said about Methylated Spirits, yet not many drink that stuff these days, well maybe The Russians might.;):giggle:

Of course I will keep trying G&T, the blend of the devil, but to me its sourer than the Ex MIL, and that's saying something.
Cheers everyone.
PS: I too would vote for the plastic ice cubes as they don't water down my Spirits or even Coke for that matter.(y)

I owe u a thankyou, I've fixed it,you spurred me on to take a look.
There are 2 micro switches .One for when the tray is up ,1 for down. The one that stops the motor when the tray comes up,the lever that depresses the switch was not pushing it all the way in ,i bent the lever to a better angle,Happy days works again, right in time for the hot weather 👍👏👏😁

It’s all about the application 🙂

I just get the butler to jog off to the local pub and get some,👍

One more go, try your gin with a Schweppes ginger ale………. Lovely. It took me years to discover it was the tonic I didn’t like!

Schweppes Ginger Ale, now your talking, thanks(y) Love a Whiskey & American on an aeroplane, its a tradition of mine.
Try Iced Ginger Ale with Lime Cordial for a soft drink on a hot day, its all the rage in The Caribbean, dont ya know, bloody lovely stuff, really hits the spot in thirst quenching.
Cheers!

I always ask for fresh ice as I find the frozen variety of an inferior quality 💡🤣

Don't need one. Put most of gthe drinks and some water in the fridge. Top up supply regularly. Fortunately we aren't big drinkers so the fridge keeps what we drink cool. Try to keep the awning up during the day to keep sun off fridge vents. Fingers crossed.

Just bought an Andrew James ice machine, bloody brilliant bit of kid, listening to them little (or big) cubes dropping into the basket is so therapeutical 🤷‍♂️😎😎😎😎

I may be mistaken, but I don't think they sell bagged ice on the continent ?
I don't know about the whole of the continent, but they do in supermarkets in France, Spain and Portugal.
