I see Autotrail are advertising for a Quality Manager

I’m sat here looking surprised …. Honest

But honestly not, based on my experience

Fully agree, unless the business is prepared to change it is a thankless task and one that I wouldn’t want. This needs to start at the top if things are to improve.

But on a positive note I am getting to know our van well having sorted so many issues !

So, all of those who slag off AT (and other UK manufacturers) for their build quality can't give positive comment on when they look to be taking some action to address these issues?:(

Perhaps the time to criticise is if their action fails to improve build quality?

Worked in Quality for a few years.
There are 3 types of Quality Manager:-
1. A manager you blame for everything and sack regularly after say a year or so , with no managerial power.
2. A powerful manager who is central to how the business operates.
3. A box ticking administrator, ignored until needed for certification.
Not sure which one Autotrail are looking for.

Degree in media studies a pre-requisit! (2.2) will do.

Judging by the job spec, they are after a number 3 type.

I wonder if they have the equivalent in Germany.

My thoughts to.

What makes you think that it’s a new role then and not simply a replacement for a previous incumbent?

Criticism is justified, based on past and present product quality, as 84% one star and just 8% five star on Trustpilot might give you a clue.

If they do improve their product quality in the future, then praise will be due, but they will still have to fight off the Autofail label as people have long memories. (y)

Agreed criticism of previous / current build quality could be justified but criticism of them, possibly, trying to address this could be viewed as counter productive.

Having said that a number of thread responses are not constructive criticism but just pointless comment on them, possibly, reacting to this criticism.

Don't think its slagging off as you put it, more first hand experience in their poor quality issues that have not been addressed for a very long time. A new quality-control manager would/could only be as good as the product being allowed out of their premise by the management team above him/her. If someone tries to seriously take control of the situation I am sure they would be up against all and sundry and the job position would be back on the market again until upper management decide who is worthy.

I don't know the answer to this but wonder how many of the responders have first hand experience of AT products.

I'm not trying to defend AT, and other manufacturers quality performance, but there does seem to be an increasing trend of, potentially, positive communications from various organisations being immediately criticised on the forum. :(

That raises the question: do AT already have a Quality [Control] Manager in the post?

Henry Ford is reputed to have said something along the lines of "If I produce 99 good cars and 1 faulty one, that to me is a 1% failure rate. But to the customer who bought the faulty car, that's likely a 100% failure rate".

It is not surprising that people who have experienced a faulty motorhome are highly vocal about it. Usually for a very long time after the event.

People are sold a dream - pictures of a glamorous couple, smiling in their motorhome next to a lake in glorious evening sun. The reality of a leaking window or flat battery on a wet dismal campsite can feel a long way from the dream!
