Thought I had this clear in my head but would value input.
Have two weight plates on my Laika as per picture one from original Iveco Chassis showing 4200 gross weight and 7200 total train weight and the other the Laika one with gross weight 4200 and train weight 4700. Axle weights agree exactly.
Since it is obviously nonsense that a chassis that can pull 3000kg can't suddenly, with a motorhome body on it, now only tow 500kgs my question is since the Iveco one is correct, can I alter the Laika one to save confusion if stopped!

If the vehicle has an extended chassis done by the converter and a standard towbar cannot use the standard fixing points that will be the reason for the lower towing weight.

@Ranger may have hit the nail on the head. My Auto-Sleeper Broadway FB has an extended chassis and A-S say it is unsuitable for towing.

I am sure it must be illegal to alter the plate yourself.

Is that two different VIN plate numbers? (n)
Brian
Well spotted Brian, I've got 3 plates on my van (Maker, Converter & Up-rate) and they all have the same VIN.

Very strange. Just checked log book and chassis number is down as Iveco no. but the engine number is noted as the number on the Laika plate!

Checked underneath and the towbar is only bolted to the original, very sturdy Iveco chassis with nothing attached to any Laika fitted parts.
Anyway problem now solved as, if queried at any time, the chassis number shown in the log book has a 7200 kg train weight!

If it was me the Laika one would be in the bin at the earliest possible opportunity (y):)

Me too if pulled by police or vosa it could take some explaining why two vin numbers
When we where weighed in Spain plod where only interested in what was on V5

Given that the incorrect number can easily be demonstrated to be the engine number, I think you should be able to explain the discrepancy away without too much difficulty. I admit that I am by nature very cautious but I think I would want Laika or an acknowledged towing expert to confirm that it is safe for your towing needs. Get it in writing. This would not only be for peace of mind but also for the insurers if involved in an accident whilst towing.

Think Chaser's right. Ditch Laika plate and problems gone!
