Make sure the brake light switch is no fouled or too sensitive as this will knock out the control.

As said, it's usually controlled by the brake switch or a second dedicated switch on the brake pedal.

On my secound hand 2018 2.3 Kanus, the cruise control didn't work when pick it up, and MHdealer had to take to Fiat main dealer, who after a week could only fix it by replacing the whole control column

They are switched off by brake pedal operation clutch pedal operation or from memory if the speed drops 12 mph from wand it was set at.
Do you know if it is a Fiat system or one of the after kits?

Best £20 you will spend and it’s been said many many times on threads as it really is true.

Solution
Had the same type of fault on my VW Amarok. Turned out to be a faulty ABS sensor front N/S wheel. Modern systems everything goes through a computer. Only found it after I bought a plug- in diagnostic tool for £134. Repair at VW would have cost double at least. Maybe a good investment for you too.

It could be several different sensors triggering it to drop out or the common fault of a bad earth connection near the steering column. That is where I would look first as it stays in for a while before dropping out

Seen maybe two of these at work. Replaced the switch unit (I mean the unit with the switches for wipers, cc and the direction indicators) and fixed both. Naturally there has been some diagnostics done first before deciding to replace it.
