I'm a newbie
I want to spend 6mths+ in a motorhome, I need advice on how good the freezer will be, or do I need to make lots of adjustments to what I can store?
Also, will I need to rethink how I style my hair?

Hi - dependant on age and model it should be capable of attaining the same temperatures as your domestic freezer so no real differences to think about other than much reduced capacity.

As for your hair style - just something attractive I would suggest - post some photos and we can give you an opinion maybe? :)

Freezers are usually fine, just not very large compared to what you have at home. Regarding hairstyle, I assume you are refrring to hairdrier/tongs etc. These can be run as at home if on site with EHU but I assume if you are planning on 6months you won't want sites all the time. Without EHU you will require a suitable inverter, adequate batteries and solar/B2B charger or both. There are many threads on using hairdriers on this site, I suggest reading a few.

Also :welco:and consider joining up £15 or you are very limited to posts, and you will probably have lots of questions. This site contains all knowledge though sometimes you need to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Had my hair cut short several years ago and just get it trimmed as and when necessary. Very quick to wash & dry and doesn't need a hairdryer or tongs etc, just comb it and let it dry naturally.

Welcome

Not sure about freezer requirements, but for hair styling a number 3 all over, every for weeks means:

Not much shampoo required
Not much water required
No hairbrush required
No hair dryer required
No curling tongs required
No hair straighteners required
No...you get the idea......

But, I do have to confess that I've suffered from premature kojakulation or, to be politically correct, I've been follically challenged, for about 30 years :)

It depends on what motorhome you buy to a fair degree , how much adjustment you will need to make .

Thank you - you've all been really helpful & welcoming.
Not sure about my hair being too short but I think I'll take it a little shorter.
The freezer think is a great relief I'd been told I couldn't really use it for frozen food!!!

Would be good to know which fridge/freezer you have, can freeze stuff in ours, had a tiny one in the romahome, didn't hold much but did keep stuff frozen.
Which van have you got we can be quite nosey on here ;)

The typical MH fridge just has a small freezer compartment. If you really wanted a lot of freezer space you could consider a compressor coolbox such as the Waeco CDF 26 or 36. These can be set down to around -18°C but they will consume quite a lot of electricity - and they are not cheap.

Much is dependent on your budget. We go away for up to three months at a time and only ever use the freezer for ice cubes. :) You may have to reconsider what you eat!

We haven't got our motorhome yet, I like the chausson 640. I think it will have a reasonable size fridge/freezer.
I think I was experiencing a negative weekend.
Thank you to everyone here I'm back to feeling positive again

Does anyone know about payloads? I've asked 3 dealers & so far got 3 different responses.
Who do I need to ask to get the best advice?

Not a dealer, is the simple answer.
Him speak with forked tongue.

Lots of help and proper advice on here though.
Good luck with your search and remember that most people only find there (almost) perfect van when on the third one.

Payloads. If buying secound hand get a weighbridge report of van totally empty as part of the purchase agreement. This includes no water( 1litre ways 1 kg.) and minimum diseal 1litre weighs approx 900 grammes.

Check if a full gas cylinder was include or not . And lesuire batteries. And if driver was sitting in the van.

Then you can take this figure off your maximun weight allowed shown on the weight plate on the van and that gives you payload estimate.

So far I've sorted my hair styling problems - I think ‍.
My freezer debate has been settled - thank you.
I'm looking at payloads

My next problem is leisure batteries & solar panels. I want a chausson 640 van does anyone know what the best batteries for this van are & what is the biggest I can get?
Thank you
