Is re registering / importing it an option? Or is it in England?

If you intend to keep it in any country for more than a few months, it needs re-registering there

Then get a UK address or register it in Ireland.

Which brings additional costs to get to Europe

I would advise against misleading insurance companies. They will take any excuse to avoid paying out.

If you live in the Republic of Ireland just register the vehicle there and then you will be able to insure it.

only if you genuinely have one. If you say you live at a particular address when taking out insurance and you don't it is insurance fraud. Get caught and you will struggle to get insurance anywhere for many years. Insurance companies talk and have shared international databases

I know of a chap that insured a sports car at a friends address as the companies would not insure at his home because it was on a rough estate. Somebody bumped his car, the insurers discovered the fraud and wouldn't pay out and cancelled cover. 10 years later he was still only named driver on his wife's car insurance

Thanks again, I have no intention of misleading the insurance company, just looking for suggestions,, taking it back to Ireland seems to be the only answer

Have a word with Jason Robery at Keith Michael's Insurance brokers, they are sometimes able to help by going direct to underwriters.

Good luck.

If registering a newish UK registered vehicle in the ROI then be prepared to pay a large chunk of cash for the privilege.

I'm sure you know this already though hence the original OP.

I think you'll find that you need a french address to get your vehicle insured by a french company
