HiHello does anyone know if it’s acceptable ( by Hymer) to walk on the roof?
I see so many Motorhome with ladders on the back!
Good job I am 74.99kg thenThe roof is a bonded construction so no problem, the weight limit is 75kg.
Had 3 Hymers always walked on the roof never had a problem.

Thanks! I do have an extendable ladder with foam sheeting cable tied onto the top rung to stop any scratching of the paint.Stay to outside area. Have a look inside where the support walls are bathroom etc. Use crawling boards on an old towel, that'll make it non slip. If you have to use a ladder to access the roof put some softening on the stiles where it touches the roof sides. Tell someone your on the roof, just in case.
Mike.
Thanks that’s good info!Hi
I have a BMLi 880 - At time of purchase I enquired about a ladder for access (mainly for cleaning and maintenance) but was told by Travelworld that this was not an option for this model. I enquired about walking on the roof and was informed that this is not an issue, subject of course to adequate safety precautions. I regularly get onto my roof (OCD concerning cleaning and once I know there is something on there I have to get on and clean it off.) Using ladders resting on the outside is not very safe and has the potential to damage the paintwork. I am fortunate in that I am able to squeeze through the skylight above the bed which makes roof access quite safe easy.
ThanksWalking on the roof of a Hymer is fine.
But be aware they are VERY slippery, especially when wet.
Ideally you need proper yacht deck shoes (with the little hexagon spikes)
I tend to stay on all fours when on the roof.
You also need to be selective about where you put the ladder.
Get some pipe insulation to put on the area in contact with the side of the van
Ideally get a fruit picking ladder
Something like this one or this one
Unfortunately I’m 85 kg but can’t easily get through the skylights due to flexibility issues not girth( no beer belly lol). ThanksThe roof is a bonded construction so no problem, the weight limit is 75kg.

What sort of platform tower ( not daughter) do you have?My daughter used to sunbathe on ours.
We have a platform tower for high level cleaning - but as we no longer have the van .......
It's ex-warehouse, bought at an auction and folds into itself. Warehouse steps essentially. What sort of platform tower ( not daughter) do you have?
Our solar panel needs cleaning every couple of weeks, otherwise the drop in solar input in noticeable with even a thin film of dust.I regularly go on ours to clean the solar panel and occasionally the whole roof. We do have a ladder fitted by Hymer. I do stay on all fours whilst up there to distribute the weight
