Hymer . Schaudt Charging arrangement?

The leisure battery, starter battery, and fridge are all connected to the EBL99. Switching the fridge to 12v and leisure battery charging is accomplished by a relay inside the EBL99 once the alternator is charging. Take a look at the EBL99 circuit which clarifies the connections.

As Tony says, however, you need to be aware that if you fit a solar panel and connect it to the EBL 99 it will only charge the leisure batteries and NOT the cab battery.

that would only be true if the solar regulator went direct to the leisure battery(s) .. or you used a generic regulator

If you use the Schaudt LR or LRM regulator the output is connected to Block 6 on the EBL, the kit also has an adapter cable to charge engine battery .

It's very easy to install.. plug and play, all cables and connectors come with the regulator

I'm talking specifically about the 3-point solar connector that goes from any solar regulator into block 6 on the EBL99 - it appears to 'connect' the solar input to the EBL but there is no corresponding centre cable in the EBL99 itself to pass the charge to the hab battery.

I had installed the LR1218 on our previous camper which had an EBL99 but didn't know that although the solar cable was put into block 6 no charge went through to the hab battery ... it's not obvious unless you study the EBL99 wiring diagram and so you'd assume, as I did, that a solar connector WOULD charge the hab battery via the solar input cabling (ie block 6) too.

The connector cable to the hab battery for charging is supplied with the LR1218 kit.. I fitted one .. as I said in my post

see user manual if in any doubt about it

I'm not disputing that ... just pointing out that the actual 3-point connector doesn't do it so unless you know otherwise you might think it does ...

Just trying to work out the charing rate of an EBL99?

55ah?
All modern EBL's are 18 amps, and you can fit an auxillary 18 amp charger giving you 36 amp capability.

Unless you are referring to 12v charging, The EBL has no effect on the charge there is just a split charge relay inside the EBL. Charge rate is governed by the cable size. In Hymer's where they fit decent size cables initial charge 20 - 25 amps dropping to 10 - 12 amps once the battery gets a bit of charge in it.

Thanks Lenny,

So if the EBL is not running off EHU and the engine is running a 120amp Alternator. Do you know the Maximum charge?

Trevor.

Once on one Hymer I let the batteries get quite low and got a charge rate of 45 amps for the first 20 min.
With a B2B I have had an intal charge of 49 amps dropping to 17 - 20 amps.
Not sure but I thought Hymer fitted a 160 amp alternator.

@Minxy Girl here is a photo of the third wire that goes straight through the ebl and charges the vehicle battery it clearly says starter battery on the RH terminal.
