Good morning would i be right in thinking that all fiat diesel tanks should be pressurised ? Ours is a 3.0 2016 we can smell diesel coming into our motorhome, we have just had a diesel heater fitted and need to see how they have plumbed it in to the main tank, as the smell was not there before the heater was fitted. TIA

Answer to your Question is no they are not pressurised.
There should be an inspection plate just behind the gear lever that gives access to the top of the fuel tank. The “fitter” may have drilled a hole directly into the tank or T/eed into the fuel pipe which comes out under the plate, this may need sealing or T piece may be leaking

My two previous Fiat/Peugeots had pressurized tanks. There was always a release every time the cap was removed.

The tanks aren’t pressurised, they have a lift pump in them.
I would contact the heater installer

In a Hymer to get at the plate Terry mentions you need to remove the wood panel between the seats. It's held in with 4 screws to get it out you need to take the sides off the seat bases first.

As others have said Fiat tanks are not pressurised.

Before trying to access the tank plate check the fuel filter under the bonnet is not leaking as that is a common fault.

Pressurised?

How? By what? and why?
I thought they were in a mild vacuum to reduce vapour leakage?

As others have mentioned, it's worth checking the fuel filter under the bonnet too. A 2016 is probably the better design that isn't so prone to failure, but worth taking a look for dampness around the filter cylinder.

If there is a “leak” surely the first place to check would the recently installed heater, check with the installer

The tank isn't pressurised but, if the heater has been tee'd off the pipe that leads from the tank to the high pressure pump, that will have a pressure from the low pressure pump in the tank?
This pump is under a plate, between the front seats as has been mentioned earlier.

We do not know what diesel heater you have had fitted but some Eberspacher has an inline, or internal, feed pump also?

The installer has fitted the diesel pipe into the one way breather pipe and siliconed the joint ?? Thats where the diesel is coming from.

He obviously has not got a clue! what sort of knob would do that on a fuel pipe (silicon) Oh Please!

It’s obviously not worth going back to the same bloke as he clearly has no idea or he would have fitted the fuel supply in the correct manner in the first place.🫣
Although I would be inclined to warn other people of who was responsible for this poor standard of work by someone passing themselves off as a fitter of this equipment.

He may want to if the repair of this blokes work is going to have a large cost to it.

He clearly had no clue what he was doing. Dangerous.
I would agree in going back maybe to collect money but would not want any work done by him, I would also check the rest of the installation.

Just to update you all, this is the company who did this appauling install , would highly recommend that you avoid like the plague. As it turns out they are NOT an approved installer for Eberspacher who I was lead to believe they were. This means that you do not get the 3 yrs Eberspacher warranty . I have since found out this is not a UK spec heater it has been imported from Poland. Please learn by my mistake hope this is of use to someone else looking at this company for an install.

Eberspacher do not recommend connecting a diesel heater into the Truma vent system. This is exactly what they did, fitted a Y piece into the Truma to come out of 2 ports into the drivers cab, which is useless as its the rest of the van that wants heating. They should be two separate systems.
