I’m not sure where to stick this but I am sure somebody will tell me soon, aimed mainly at light commercials just now but Stellantis have approved a company to effectively retrofit electrification to your Ducato and soon to come a Sprinter and a Master version as well.

The Stellantis Ducato retrofit fits largely within the engine bay and tries to keep the weight and price down. It'll have a very short range. Which will be even worse with a hefty and unaerodynamic motorhome on top.

This is not the Stellantis retrofit, it is BEDEO system & the unique hybrid retrofit that they manufacture.

It is not installed under the bonnet, the batteries go under the floor and the motors are integrated into the rear wheels on a front wheel drive van.

The WLTP electric range is about 72 miles, the original diesel engine remains in place, it is effectively a now emissions range extender allowing previously diesel only vans to gain access to LEZs, the French are early adopters.

They do also produce full electric retrofits with impressive range claims.

The real issues are of course weight and expense but it is a glimpse of the future and what may become possible if volume manufactured.

If they stick electric motors on the back axle, that's going to play havoc with our payloads even allowing for any uprated allowance.
It could actually be integrated into the wheels themselves, but certainly the point of the weight limit is valid. But the law could be changed for these hybrids anyway. Myself I'm not keen on this movement to electric power, but it is coming.

On that point of the French being early ev adapters, my son who lives in France has just applied for a French Government grant for a 3 year deal for leasing a new small electric car especially aimed at commuters living outside larger cities but travelling into lez zones. There are 20,000 available to suitable applicants, at very low rates I think 59 or so Euro per month. As you can imagine, it's already oversubscribed.

Trigano group motorhomes with this BEDEO system - not surprised that one is a Chausson as they do like to keep changing & innovating each year design wise.
Two issues:

The underfloor of a motorhome is already full of tanks. So where will be battery and drive go?

Motorhomes are already very heavy. A 37kWh battery and drive is going to be an additional few hundred kg.

Presumably can benefit from the additional limits being introduced in EU?
