hello,i have a garmin camper sat nav 985 and cannot after several hours playing with it work out how to input the ccp coordinates they use into it.i am ok with other formats but theirs is beyond me. must admit that computers came to me very late in life.thanks in advance for any replies and i hope they will also help anyone as thick as me

We had same issue, try putting in the 5 figure post code into the Garmin, we found that was accurate. But only worked off this mode whilst in France.

I use them with Google maps on an 9" Android tablet .. it's so easy... no chance of making a typo ..

but not familiar with using on a sat nav.. don't use my Garmin now

but looking at the format it is standard decimal GPS ..

an example

50.46361° N, 1.57965° E

or are you trying to use the address ?

And sometimes you have to drop off a trailing digit or two as the satnav will not take it.

You may find the setting under Position Format and in an earlier thread someone said that you have to enter leading 0 or two for the E/W figure

When the position format of a Garmin device is set to Latitude and Longitude in decimal degrees (hddd. dddddo or hddd. ddddddo), up to 5 or 6 digits can be entered after the decimal for each coordinate, depending on the device being used and what version of software it is running.

I use the Garmin drive app.

Go to the CCP and then let’s go takes to google maps as stated above.
Then you can forward that and on the choice of where to send it select Garmin drive. Sends to the sat nav.

On your Garmin choose N and then enter the first decimal number. Then enter W if second number is negative , or E if it is positive and then enter second number.
Sorry, its been a while so trying to remember
The designator of east or west will indicate the relative direction the line of longitude is from the Prime Meridian. Longitudes with a – sign indicate a location in the western hemisphere and degrees with a positive number are located in the eastern hemisphere.

OP is correct in that the CCP does not display the NSEW that some Garmins require first. So s/he needs to enter as in my post above - well thats how I used to do it.
thanks i will work on that. but it should not be necessary to my small brain

Of course, you can always download the app Search for Sites and the data package for your sat nav. Then it will set the nav at the touch of the screen.

The first number is the vertical axis ie North/South. So, as we're north of the equator it will automatically be N. The second one is East/West, horizontal axis.

It always makes me wonder when this arises, why do people still stick to all this old stuff to get about?
All you need is park4 night, CCP app and Google maps on your phone, that's it finished you can find any Aire or parking place or CCP .
Nothing to put in just get where you want to be up and your phone will automatically take you to the gate.
No coordinates, no sat nav just , as they say, click and go.
When we are parked in France the numerous people we have met that have to tell you they have found this wonderful app that finds Aires is amazing , something we have been using for 10 years and never been lost yet and they have only just found it.
Even then they are still faffing about trying to get it into a sat nav.

If you try it with Google maps the route planning seems to be done by a kid sat in his bedroom in Kentucky

spot on....

I sold my Garmin Camper last year.. was just gathering dust in a drawer

I was using my phone with Google Maps but found the screen a wee bit small ..

Now have a Lenovo M9 9 Inch 64GB Wi-Fi with GPS ... tethered to my phone for navigation using Google maps .. can't fault it ..

You can see your route before you set off, if you want to use a different one just use that.
You only get at an overview but checking every turn on a 200 mile trip would take all week (we always set it to No Tolls when touring)

A french 5 digit post code will only get you to the centre of about a 5-10 square kilometers area of where you want to be, especially in rural areas.
For example, this is my post code area.

That is what the old France passion used to use years ago , you could drive about all day and still not find it.

Do you download the maps so you can use them off line or do you find you always have a signal? We use the Satnav when we don't have a signal when trying to plan a route but would like to be able to always use the phone.
