I'm always amazed that the tax for my 4250 kg is £160 and yet my little 1600 swift is £275 makes no sense.

New rates

It's £165, has been for yonks, I don't really understand it either but compared to £325 for 3500kg MHs it makes even more sense to uprate as the difference in cost nearly pays for it so by year 2 you're quids in. I appreciate though that this isn't an option for some

hasn't done for years.

Hows about the cars that are still £30 is but a motorbike over 600cc is over £100

or even paying the additional £390 per year for 5 years just because its list price is over £40K.

all wrong :mad::mad:

Glad I uprated mine to 4250KG. Still £165.

My VX220 however - off the road for nearly a year now. Hard to justify £395 for 1000 miles a year. (Plus £500/600 insurance) Tax really needs to be based on mileage to be fair. However, then I need it to be UK miles only for the motorhome as most of my miles this year were abroad. Perhaps we need some kind of road pricing scheme.

here in spain local councils set road tax in every region. my local council has one of the highest rates going for yearly road tax but having said that it rarely rises.
why i have no idea ?just yesterday the council took the dd for 161,58€ which is the same amount it was in 2022, 21, 20 . same with council tax.
rubbish has been the same amount since i moved here in 2002.🤷‍♂️

30 years ago on holiday in Cape town we borrowed ex girlfriends dad's beach buggy.
One day got a ticket for no road tax.
Down to the town hall to pay, yes the town hall, and I had to pay 2½ years back tax and the current year.
Got change out of 150 rand...£30. (R5 to £1 in those days)
And the roads would put most of Europe to shame.
Basic 3rd party insurance included in the price of petrol.

On the 3 and 4th March i taxed 2 cars at £520 each, had i left it until today i would have had to pay £570 each..................i think.

Bertie if £0 FREE nowt zilch

Not to diminish your concerns, but most Swedes would love a MH road tax of £275, and obviously £165 even more - our brilliant politicians (yes, that's me being slightly sarcastic) invented a system called bonus-malus a few years ago, and since then road tax on new cars have gone up a gazillion percent - our 3,5 tonne semi-integrated Euro6 Pilote is now some £1300 a year for the first three years, then it drops to a bargain £500! Oh and they recently scrapped the bonus part of the package, so it's now pure penalty - isn't politics, in particupar politicians who make decisions that has zero impact on themselves, great?

We spoke with a Dutch couple on our last jaunt and they said they pay €800 pa for their MH, by comparison the French pay nothing.
