On and off for many years.
Just been quoted over £18 for a grass pitch with no EHU at a club site, so the war cry was heard as I relayed the amount. So we will be BritStopping instead (and our supper at our hosts will cost less than the pitch at site - and it's at a more convenient location to our route)

You got off lightly then....
3-4 years ago we were quoted £24 for 1night at Hertford C&,CC....grass pitch , nil EHU....that went a fair way to our decision not to renew membership.

£18 will buy a bloody good meal for two 'round here - and maybe a drink or two.
If we all stop paying that kind of money just for parking for the night, they might just get the idea that MoHo's have more options.

Out of season and for a few nights when the weather might not be great the club sites make sense but as a basic night-stop en-route elsewhere I'd rather just park up legally and spend my money in a local establishment.

Or they might just start reporting pubs and the like that operate without a license or exemption.
Yes it’s funny how campsites arrre the first to moan about any stopover that’s not with them

You must go to the wrong places , we normally pay on serviced CL £12

Yes strange that, a business being worried about possible illegal competition undercutting rates after spending thousands, if not millions in providing a service:)
I realise that the 2 big clubs do not cater for overnight stops in motorhomes or caravans, they are missing a trick in not providing basic cheap overnight stops for both.

Overnight stop pitches require minimum space, I am sure an area for this could be provided at most club sites, lots of sites in France now have cheap Aires next to them on what was once part of the main site.
I do use pub stopovers en route but quite often the cost of a meal that I may not particularly need is more than the cost of a site.

What's wrong with "moaning" (if that is the right word) about people acting outside the law?
The sites that I'm most concerned about are the CLs/CSs - both existing ones and new ones.
People are hardly likely to invest money if they know some chancer just down the road is going to take their business by acting illegally are they?

Supply & demand John.
Just like supermarkets charging different prices for petrol depending on the competition in the area.

Maybe, or maybe a change in philosophy.
In business there is always the dilemma, low price & high volume or high price & low volume. There are always those who cannot / will not live without EHU plus those who would not dream of not staying on a site, so let's fleece them.
A site near us has a a policy of 2 night minimum June to August for which they charge an eye watering £ 93.

I understand the mechanics, having run a business, but it isn't purely about price.
If customers consider they are being fleeced they will soon become ex-customers and the model will fail unless they are replaced by people willing to pay.
If the site is still full, despite what some may feel are high prices, then the model will succeed as the overall package obviously appeals to the target market.

I notice the camping and caravaning club are advertising on the TV now. Can't remember what programme they're on with but they sponsor something. That must cost them thousands, guess who's paying? :cautious:

Not us.

The number of campers caravaners & campervaners is higher than ever yet the number of touring pitches is falling as more sites turn to glamping, statics & lodges.
Therefore for the reasons previously stated the pitches still available will be full.
Yes people will moan but those who " must" use a site will pay.

They probably sponsor one of the adult channels or country and western tv.

The caravan club has changed its name recently to the Caravan and Motorhome club now its time they changed their policy of ripping off the customers and started to realise the average working man or pensioner cant afford to pay a kings ransom t park for the night

Except that, and despite which, their sites are always full?

Mainly those blinkered and deluded souls who can't see or won't explore the alternatives.
Regardless of how you paint it Graham, club pricing is a rip-off of the highest order.

I disagree with the term rip off, John.
I don't know what the club rates are compared to those of private sites with similar facilities but are they that much different?

The fact that something is not affordable by some people doesn't mean that it's a rip off or that prices have to be reduced as a result.

Ever thought that they may have seen the alternatives and actually like the club sites as they are!

A 'rip off' that lots are prepared to pay for services and locations that they like.

How much €6 but it is for 24hr none of this stupid get of the pitch by 12pm.:ROFLMAO:

While ever their sites are full and over subscribed they are going to continue pushing up the price. I know I would if it was my field.

Supply and demand but hopefully the supply will increase to match the recent boom in motorhomes. The thing that will make the club sites drop prices is empty pitches

Spot on! Campsites only charge what they can charge because they fill the pitches. The two “clubs” often charge less than a lot of private sites

Not likely. While manufacturers & dealers want us to buy caravans & motorhome, the site owners want to sell us statics & lodges.
