Hi. Our 2.3 L Ducato campervan has just been serviced and I have noticed that the oil level on the dipstick is about 4 maybe 5 mm above the maximum mark. Parked on a very slight ‘driver side up’ slope across our drive. I know of dangers or overfilling, but is this amount too much? Thanks.

Get them to Suck some out .....you don't want a chance of any Hydraulicing ☹️

Ideally it should be halfway between min and max so if its 5mm above max there's too much.

Personally I'd drain a bit out

Was the service done at a garage??

If so I can nearly grantee they wouldn’t over fill as that’s profit down the drain.

Check when it’s cold and level surface

As a AA patrol I once got called out to what I learnt was a 7L vw polo 😁
Young lady doing her Sunday morning garage trip.
Couldn't see oil when she took the cap off 🤣
Bought a can two all and kept filling.
Drained off the extra 7 and she when smoking up the road me following.
And no she weren't blonde 😁

Not good, but also not dire either. The on board computer [ van year dependant ]will bring on the orange triangular warning light if it's overfilled to an amount likely to cause damage. If you can get a little sucked out through the dipstick do so. If you're really bothered, dropping the oil filter off would reduce it by about 200ml, just empty it then screw it back on, but it can be a messy job.

I've encountered that a few times. It's actually unreal how many people women AND men have no idea how to check oil levels

I once bought a VW Scirocco, that needed a new engine.

Thought I was worth checking over. The lady had filled it to the filler cap with oil, now engine wouldn’t turn over. Drained the excess oil, pulled the plugs, spun it over and earned a nice profit. 👍🏻👍🏻

Once bought a repaired Dolomite that had been sat in a main dealer
waiting for the Insurance man.

In that time, various bits had ben 'removed' and when I got it someone
had replaced the dipstick with one from, I think it was a Toledo. (unknown to me)

Set off for our jollies across Dartmoor, and, dropping down the hill
from
Princetown I looked in the rear view mirror and was shocked to see the
clouds of smoke behind me.

Apparently, the Toledo's dipstick is shorter than a Dolly, hence
we had loads more oil than necessary.

Took some oil out and no damage caused.

If you are van. Up the oil would be lower as dipstick is at the front. The max mark on the dipstick is there for a reason.
