Hi there. We have had a few Motorhome over the years but all have had an annoying problem. The water tank gauge gives three points of measurement. Full, well I know that, I just filled it. 70%, Ok. 30% well that is a huge jump from 70%. Then empty- though this means you are in the last 20litres.
When you drop from 70% what it actually means is you have up to 69% but you don’t know how much. When you drop from 30% it means you have up to 29% but you could be about to run dry? Kettle before shower sod the washing up!
My question is…. Has anyone come across a retro fit, accurate multi graded measuring system for the fresh water tank.

I haven’t seen any gauge for fresh or waste water tanks or gas tanks that are remotely close to any accuracy.
I would top up with a known quantity (10 Ltr watering can or similar ) after a day’s use to get an idea of useage and work from there as to whether you should still have enough left

You have not been looking hard enough then. ;) :ROFLMAO:

Just been looking after GeoffnDee mentioned them. Not seen before but does look like a good option.
They are very accurate, but only suitable if you can get access to mount them on the underside of your water tanks.

I am interested in the gas tank as it’s only 25ltr underslung. The fitted gauge shows empty when still 50% full so is useless when where it matters. They say fine for horizontal tanks so should be ok if it fits securely on the radius.
I will get one and see if it temps me to get a fresh water tank one too.

Don’t you just know that every 3/4/5/6/7 days delete as necessary, days you have in the tank?
Ours is 6 days, so we plan to that?
Every day you use roughly the same amount of water? Well we do!
Therefore
No kit required.

Yes I have one on my 30ltr underslung..
Surprisingly accurate...

This is mine mounted on my underslung tank.
I did originally fit the standard Mopeka sensor but have since upgraded to the Pro version so I can read the tank levels via my Victron screen.

This is my earlier Mopeka standard sensor fitting to my underslung tank.
Sensor mounted on the tank with it's magnets, but not wanting it to fall off if I hit a pothole, so I made a cover to hold it in place and give it some protection from road spray.

The sensor is flush with the tank mounting brackets, that's a bit handy.

1mm thick aluminium cover trial fitted and ready to paint.
One end is bent over to grip the tank mounting frame and I just used a self tapper on the other end to fix it in place.
The clamp was only used to hold the cover in place to test that the cover fitted okay.

We don't use the same amount of water each day as we are in the van all day some day and out and about exploring other days so using very little water on those days.

That’s brilliant, thanks for the pictures. Mine has different mountings but I can easily either tape around the tank and sensor or sikaflex the edges for the extra security.

I wonder if it's the tank material aren't safefill grp?

The main problem is the Safefill cylinder base which does not allow direct sensor contact with the cylinder itself.
My water tanks are plastic and the Mopeka sensor work fine with them as they are in direct contact with the water tank bottom.

I now think TooOnTour may be right because they only work if they can be attached direct to the bottom of the bottle which is not possible with Safefill (because of the frame around the bottle)

EDIT: see picture above.

Would love to fit a Mopeka sensor to our fresh water tank as our gauge is very "loose" with it's readings. However our tank is in between a double floor (Carthago) and I think near impossible to get to the bottom of the tank for fitting. Is there any way of inverting the readings if placed on the top, as in empty means full if that makes sense, or would it even work with it placed on the top? Ta

I would think unlikely but a email to Mopeka is your best bet as they have responded to my questions in the past.

Mopeka do a mounting collar that can be used with the Pro version , the lpg shop has them.

As far as I'm aware the mounting collars are only suitable for flat surfaces unless they have introduced a curved version for underslung LPG tank.
Reading the manufacturer details, the lpg tank adapter is curved to fit the bottom of a vertical tank but nothing specific for a horizontal cylinder mounting

I have just had a look, and that's how I read it.
