I have 2x6kg GasIT bottles and managed to run both empty last night by mistake. Silly me! The interesting bit though is how much went in when I filled. The pump clicked off at 25.46l. Using a ratio of 1.96 this gives me 12.98kg. That sound ok? I make that out to be 86%

And probably your fridg use up a lot of it were just on our second bottle but we don’t have gas heater.
Or boiler so just cooking but when we had the big van it usually lasted two and a half months
But we never ran the gas heater just diesel

If you continue to hold the trigger, the pump usually slows the pumping considerably, but it is sometimes possible to add a little more gas beyond the 80% level. Obviously not to be recommended for safety reasons.

During a recent cold snap we used 2litre per 24 hours..

I'm not sure if you're questioning it being lower than 100% or higher than 80% (which is the nominal max fill capacity)?
I was wondering why it went over 80%. I didn't try add extra.....letting it click off which it did suddenly. I must admit I was getting nervous but I did want to see what it would hold. My question is one of safety. Is the 80% mechanical cut off mechanism doing its job correctly. I'll read the wiki page with interest.

I recently changed my Gaslow for a lightweight version....on my first fill I calculated how much 80% would be...I told the attendant that it would shut off at 19/20 litres more or less...it did..

I'll admit that I was surprised too as I'd always understood it to be 80% with 20% ullage.

The article seems to suggest that it's not uncommon to fill between 80% and 85% and then goes on to say that a full cylinder will be 86%

It wasn't 100% clear to me, but it did seem odd that the magic 86% figure matched.

I'll take a step back and wait for someone who knows what they're talking about to show up and explain it so that I might learn something!

Also how level you van was you filled the valve is only operated by a float.
Van was on a small slope...would have rolled without handbrake but I'm surprised that slope makes a difference. In my mind the float would have parallel walls in its design. I guess the 80% does not have to be an exact figure as long as it's within design spec I'm happy

Not a Gasit bottle but the principle is the same. Tilt the van/bottle one way and you will get a bit more than 80% and tilt the van/bottle the other way and you will get a bit less than 80%.

As already mentioned fixed garden tanks which never tilt are filled to 85%.
